Captains

Patch is being deployed today

Epic events reworked.

  • Epic events now allow only 6 ships to enter (spawning 9 enemies)
  • Epic events now spawn epic (strong) enemies. If you sink or board a ship in an epic event you can pick up a chest from a destroyed ship.
  • Players will have to show strong coordination to be able to destroy those stronger enemies.
  • For first stage of testing we will run the Lineship event (that spawn in unprotected waters around the caribbean). After this initial test we will add a frigate event as well.

Port battle changes

  • Port battles now allow limited battle rating based on the city size. We used historical city sizes initially. Please comment on the port battles sizes in the comments and propose changes if any changes needed

Open world loot

  • Open world bots and hostility missions now drop better loot depending on ship size.
  • Mission bots drop less rare loot on average.
  • If you are searching for a particular rare book - you have a better chance to get it by hunting NPCs in the open world.

Other changes

  • PvP marks have returned. PvP rewards added to the admiralty store.
    • pvp kills now grant both pvp marks and combat marks
  • 2lb gun has been added to game for use on the ships with swivels. First ship with swivels will be added to game in one of the next hotfixes
  • Timers have been tuned slightly. Invisibility timer is now 30 seconds, cannot attack and be attacked is now 45 seconds
  • Reinforcement bot stats slightly changed
  • Speed cap has been increased to 15.5 knots
  • All % caps have been increased by 5% to provide more variability in fitouts
  • Turn rates have been improved for Endymion, Constitution, Agamemnon, Trincomalee, Indefatigable
  • Damage from fire slightly increased (for testing)
  • Explosions now affect ship structure
  • Shot logger has been switched off
  • Fixed the bug that some contested ports are not shown in the list of the contested ports
  • Fixed the bug that did not auto-repair the rudder on the Indefatigable and several other ships

In the next hotfixes

  • Ship stats and BR rebalance (more on this later)
  • Le Gros Ventre Refit
  • Epic event tuning and frigate epic pve event
  • Port battle BR limits tuning based on feedback

Next large patch

Hotfix 1 November 1

Significant changes

  • New ship - Le Gros Ventre Refit, with swivels. The ship is available for pvp marks in the admiralty.
  • Outlaw battles have been removed - they were a cause of multiple exploits that unfortunately could not be fixed in a reasonable time.

Fixes

  • Minor changes for loot tables (some upgrades were dropping too much)
  • Fixed the bot distribution (some regions did not have enough bots)
  • Minor tunings for some upgrades (for example fixed bug for trim by the stern providing incorrect bonuses
  • Fixes of several bugs with ship trade that were not clearing the knowledge slots for the traded ships (creating confusion as they did not work if you did not have the skill yourself)

Wow...

A lot of unexpected changes.

The PB sizes per historical colony size is really interesting. I wonder if Economy side of it, amounts on the production of goods, might get such a historical adjustment as well. ( dreams of abundance/shortage dynamics tied to politics and war famine, etc )

OW loot adjustments look good. This could mean a step further down the breakdown of it even. Loot in Reinforced areas being lessened compared to the non reinforce areas, to promote risk/reward.

Happy to see epic events have a purpose hopefully they are good. Why disable the shot log though? Now if only we could make courier missions useful... Hint EVE

Does this mean more loot from NPC traders? This would be good (very good way to make money for newbie players and to practice fighting as well).

Many good ideas there - sounds promising!

- We may see Endy, Trinco etc. more now.
- Players may get attracted by better loot, to leave the SAFE ZONES - so hopefully more PvP.
- More damage by fire was long overdue - in reality, sails easily burnt all down.

I didn't understand the "Port Battle"-changes you made - better explanation needed.
But a BIG wish from my side: bring more variety to PBs - add "5thRate", "3rdRate" and "2ndRate" port battle types!

Why should we stick to an ancient mechanic of nation vs nation when we have now clan vs clan.

Need details on PB changes ASAP! When will you guys realize you can't make such important changes without giving us proper documentation?

Rest looks pretty good.

All very exciting changes, can't wait to try it. I'd like some clarification on one point:

"Open world bots and hostility missions now drop better loot depending on ship size."

Does this mean a Victory has more chance of dropping copper plating (for example) than a Brig? Or is it just that the amount of repairs that drop better much the size of the ship?

Personally I'm a fan of pure RNG on books and upgrades, I dont think ship type should affect that. But I do like the idea that you have more chance from openworld NPCs

I wonder what the use of thoose swivel guns will be 2lb sounds not like they can penetrate anything, maybe they are effective vs. crew?

This patch looks excellent. Particularly the increased usefulness of OW NPC hunting and the increased no-attack-timer.

Only thing I'm a bit sceptical about is the increased percentages for upgrades.

already don't like the pvp rewards...  2 speed mods?  really?

sorry, I know not how to read.  one is an OS speed boost.  that I can get behind

Captains

Patch is being deployed today  - Thank you for patch, keep working !

Epic events reworked. - Good

Port battle changes  - WE NEED BR CHANGE OF ALL SHIPS !!!

  • Port battles now allow limited battle rating based on the city size. We used historical city sizes initially. Please comment on the port battles sizes in the comments and propose changes if any changes needed
  • Speed cap has been increased to 15.5 knots - Its not going to fix speed meta. You should to decrase speed for all ships. This speed 15,5  knots are very unrealistic.

I have been waiting something like this more than a year.  I am speechless.

There's a whole bunch of 5100-BR ports in shallow waters around the Bahamas.

That's 204 BR per ship even if you fill all 25 slots, so there's no way to even utilize all the BR when ships can't reach the PB, same goes for the 3400 ports too (just by not as huge of a margin).

So, think of this as just putting in the framework for it to be done.  Max BR numbers will, I'm sure, be very easy to change on the fly, allowing them to be dialed in to whatever is most appropriate.  Also keep in mind, these numbers will have to change based on any BR overhauls that are done next patch.  (For example, a Niagara and a Cerberus are not of the same strength, yet both are 100BR.)
