Slim McSauce Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 (edited) All it does is server as fuel for global shit talk, which sounds great but it keeps the non hardcore from wanting to go out and potentially embarrassed themselves, their nation, and their clan in front of the entire server. A better solution that is more useful, more realistic and less daunting for new and old players would be to replace Combat News with (Port News) Basically if a ship gets too close to one of your nations ports, the port will relay a message to this chat after a minute or so saying "X nation ship spotted near X port" If a group of 10+ ships passes near the port within that minute the message would read "X nation fleet spotted near X port" From a realism standpoint it makes sense for a port to send notice of enemy ships in the area. It will give players a better idea where to find PVP and is a good quality of life/realism addition to the game. Edited October 3, 2017 by Slim Jimmerson

That's not a solution 8 minutes ago, Cortez said: Seriously man? you need to get out to find an enemy Why is it unreasonable for a nations port to call out enemy ships near it? 8 minutes ago, Cortez said: That is exactly what "Combat News" do. Combat news is for e-peen stroking 1st and spotting ships 2nd, hence why someone needs to be killed before the port decides "oh shit maybe the nation should know there's an entire fleet sailing around our port" "Naaah lets just wait for someone to sink because hello kitty being useful right?". Slim McSauce Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 (edited) By far the most pretentious set of comments I've ever seen someone post on these forums. Well done. Edited October 3, 2017 by Slim Jimmerson
Guest Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I believe that was more or less CombatNews' intention - to fuel interest and discussions about what is presented there (e.g. during a PB, "oooh, lots of X nation ships are sinking now!"). Does it happen on the EU server as well or is it just a product of Global's community? I can't recall seeing it much.
Sven Silberbart Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 (edited) I havent a problem with combat news but i really like the "Port News"- Idea. @admin should take a look at it That would bring some interesting hunting gameplay Edited October 3, 2017 by Sven Silberbart 1

Abram Svensson Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I dont see the problem aswell. Combat news dont mention the player who sank or the ships which have been used, no matter if a trader sunk or someone in a Wasa captured a 1st rate. For me its an source where i could find PVP. 1
Rebel Witch Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Combat news is great. i just wish they would add a leaderboard in the game to give credit to the top pvp'rs. PVPrs deserve credit it drives that portion of the game. 1

Sir Texas Sir Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 6 hours ago, admin said: combat news channel does not name the person who sank Exactly so the only way folks are going to know you got sunk is you smack talk in Global about it and @Slim Jimmerson your one of the trolls in game and on the forums that does a lot of your own smack talking so if your upset you got sunk bring a bigger fleet or keep fighting and getting better. Though I would love it if it announced where agro is getting put. Like when you get out of the first missions it should post something like, "Nassau is being attacked by CKA or GB(clan would be better than nation)." Type of thing, is there any way to do this @admin to better let folks know what area is hot? Cause some times the only way to know is you have to keep refreshing your map while doing other things.
Norfolk nChance Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 @Slim Jimmerson Unfortunately I don't agree also. CombatNews works. If I could add I'd like to see a delay mark on the map of the location appear after the Server restart and drops off after server shut down. Am not sure it be possible to do @Inkwould know am sure. Not naming the victim is all part of the fun. Next you'll want ships and what make up each had to boot...

We have 150 people on a map that takes many consecutive hours to cross. I think its asking a bit much to just "go out and look" for PVP. 1

If the coding was easy, imagine this. @Slim Jimmersonowns a PORT. The good Landlord that he is adds lots improvements including safety. Like towers and the latest "Skyscrapper" tower. Its a third bigger structurally weaker costs a bit to maintain, but will give anyone in that port a regional drop list of PCs within its region over the last server cycle...? not live
Vizzini Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Keep combat ... one of the better changes in the last few months

Given the compressed nature of OW a message from brunswick could reach charlston in minutes by horse. You could have a channel inside port like that combines the function of trade and combat news, giving people inside port the message after a few minutes time and it'd be easily coded and relatively realistic and very functional. victor Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) Or you could just add a red flashing dot (or star, or skull or whatever) on the map to highlight the coordinates where a OS PVP battle took place (no matter if a player was sunk or not) in the last hour: the more the dots in a given area, the more the danger you expect to meet there. Intuitive and simple solution. Edited October 5, 2017 by victor 2
