Jack Jones Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) What has happened??? I have returned after 4 months or so from being away. I was a relatively hard core player. I started afresh. I have not used any redeemables. I have started at zero as a pirate in this new system. I am not in a clan. The game had troubles before but it was PvP and it was more forgiving to solo and casual players. (Gankers were over rated). What the hell has happened. This is now the most dull and boring pve experience the game has ever been. Grind has increased. Rewards are huge....if you win. However Fight for two hours and lose a close combat and you get nothing!! PvP is almost unplayable unless you are part of a big clan and well supported. It is just to costly for normal players. The exp system discourages daring play. The cost of losing a ship/crew/repairs etc is crippling to average players and so is extremely off putting. (We need to encourage pvp by making its recovery from loss easier and therefore more appealing to have a go at). The silly hull/rig/crew repair system is both costly and Grindy. It has ruined combat he who can afford more...repairs more. The marks and books etc etc and other clutter is over complicated and confusing. Its just fluff for fluffs sake. The sheer amount of grind is stifling. If you play this game regular and are established then it may be hard to see what has become of this game. Where are all the open sea battles? The mad lone raiders? Even the days of ganking was better than this. Now players fear loss..... First timers at launch faced with such a struggle without the chance to have fun in the game will soon abandon ship. Simplified upgrades like the old system, lives on ships, rewards for combat win or lose all added to PvP. Now it's just not worth it for Joe average to risk his prized ship and Joe average should be the majority players. I hope it recovers from this mess of confusion and returns to a PvP open world game again. More simple, more accessible, less grind and more fun. Devs please stop making huge overalls. Slow, STEADY progression will keep veterans but also New and casual players who we all need. My heart wants to believe but my head is doubting. Edited September 30, 2017 by Honourable Bluetooth 3

PVP seemingly has been overlooked in order to protect new players. On Global population is too low to reliably find any pvp without some kind of port spotting/heat map mechanic. Average joes can capture up to 5th rates. Basically free PVP ships. Disagree with the grind, I think its just that there is nothing to do BUT grind. Trust me, old players aren't having a blast either even with a dock full of fitted ships. Game needs content and active managing of that content. Although we get patch notes, we don't really have any mechanic goals. All we know is UI is next, then ship balancing. After that? Who knows. 1
Sunleader Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 What happened is pretty Simple. During the Ganking Times the Population has dropped so incredible much that the economy has pretty much Collaosed. Everyone but the PvPers left the Game cause there was no Protection and just getting the stuff from your Buildings together was near impossible without Big Escorts from a Clan. By now without a Big Clan getting anything beyond 5th Rates is near Impossible. Because there is just not enough People Crafting and Trading. All thats left is People who want to fight, fight and fight even more. So Prices are out the roof and despite getting far more Money its become much harder to get proper Ships etc. There is hope tough 1-2 weeks ago they added some Safezones back where you cant be Ganked. So hopefully the Game will Recover a bit now. Gaining new Players and most of all new PvE Players that get the Economy back on its feet.....
seanjo Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 This game isn't just about PvP, it has facets that appeal to different people.
Jack Jones Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) I think the big problem is the no rewards for anything if you don't win. This will be so demoralizing to anyone who has struggled through a tough fight and is such a put off as an negative incentive. The new safe zones, reinforcements and new exp would have fit well with the old system of crafting and ships and stopped the gankers or at least hampered them. One dura ships put players off taking a risk and getting their feet wet. As far as clans go, this unfortunately has become a clan game except for the few with lots if time to play. If your in a clan being told what to do you can progress and life is easier but for a lot of potential players joining a clan is a major put off in a game. The grind is well......zzzzzz. Time was when this game with all its whingers and faults was fun. Pre (special woods) and some of these tweaks back then could have been just right imho. I miss the mass battles in open sea and the feeling after being jumped or having escaped a gank. You were not punished with NO rewards at all and the loss of your ship, your crew and any repairs you had. Realistic maybe but so is cutting your toe off to see what pain feels like. I hope someone somewhere rolls back some of this and finds a balance between grind, playability and fun again. Edited September 30, 2017 by Honourable Bluetooth

Its just that people are scared to pvp or something i dont know.. People arnt scared to pvp lol....its a game. The 'no rewards' for anything but victory. And the loss of your ship and repairs and crew can't be replaced by 1 combat mission? (Unless part of a big clan maybe). Sure you can buy a ship off the market but any extras you have crafted into one cant just be replaced. Time alone is prohibitive if you have a job, life etc. 1 dura definitely stops pvp or at least makes people less willing to take a chance and have a go. I used to jump aboard my gold (bought) 5 dura frigate and steam out into the whole Sorry Clan sitting off port royal. I world fire and fight furiously for 5 mins before being sunk, but wow what a kick!! I would revive some gold and exp and the buzz of extreme combat. Now. No way would I do that. The time to replace that would be way to much and the rewards....zero. I'm not a PvP die-hard but now there is no incentive. Its just punishment for daring to try. Its a shame.
