Slim McSauce Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 So we got unity 5 along with a bunch of other neat stuff. Whats the next big move for Naval Action from here? What do you think it should be?
Abram Svensson Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) Would love 4th rates "shallows", maybe call it reefs then. Maybe a spectate mode for Portbattles? Of course with a delay. More content: -Raids, as mentioned before -maybe expeditions, where you need to collect and bring ressources to a certain port. outcome has a chance of failure or huge reward -Treasure fleets, could be PVE only, but like it more with PVP. You see a fleet of a nation on the map. The owning nation needs to defend it. Edited September 18, 2017 by Abram Svensson 2
Demsity Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Ship/port customisation Reintroduce paints Naming ships More ship customisation (sails, bow figure etc) Some sort of port customisation (?) Clan Flags/Insignias to be visible on ships and/or ports. Clan Mechanics Flag/Insignias Clan buildings (workshop, shipyard etc.) Clan docks. More clan ranks (Trader, crafter etc.) Clan warehouse logs More diverse missions (escort mission, reinforcement mission) (PVE) Simple bounty system. Port UI Player trade missions 3
Riparian Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 As proposed, at least one more level of shallows would be really nice. Also, with many more ports now open for port-battles, it would be nice to have different "set-ups" available (in addition to 25 ship battles for shallow, 4th rate and line ships). Simple change should be different number of ships (something like 20 or 15 ship battles) and/or other rate limits (3rd rate port battle, 5th rate port battle etc.). But as it has been proposed many times in these forums, a system to enable mixed fleets for port battles would be very nice improvement (e.g. fleets with couple of 1st/2nd rates, mostly 3rd rates and some supporting smaller ships) . And Raids of course! 1
admin Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 2 things are the main priorities now user interface localization 15
The Spud Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I'm probably asking a realy dumb question, but what do you mean @admin with localization?

VonBarb Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I know t's taking a lot of flak from people who still struggle with the concept of early access (check the Steam comments section) but I for one kind of like the current UI. It is simple, sober and functional. I'd hate to see wood-and-brass frames or ink-on-parchment style fonts to make it look more POTCBS-like. 2

Vizzini Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Player generated delivery / collection missions Another thing that could need looking at is the time it takes the average player ( not the hardcore ) to get from day 1 to a decent fighting ship. ie, be able to crew one, not purchase or craft it. Could be, it's too much time at the moment and be off putting to a new person

Could be, it's too much time at the moment and be off putting to a new person First descent ship would be a surprise at 240 crew, which (according to the wiki) takes you 11.000Xp to cover those 6 ranks after that the next rank is 10.000xp to go to trinc. So the distance BC to Surprise is only slightly bigger than Surprise to trinc. So I wouldn't consider that to be too long to be honest, I think if you play a couple of hours each day for a week you should be prety close to a surprise as a new player. Hardcore player might do it in 2-3 days or so. Keep in mind that as of now, with the missions/pvp being a good source of income again and ships being capturable, that experienced players will be back to giving stuff away to new players. I think at this time, without a tutorial available, the new players are probably more frustrated about not knowing how half the things work instead of how long the grind is.

Point taken Spud, I'm not a great sailor, been playing since wipe and am still short of Flag Captain by 2k xp (ish ) sure I could have rushed it but being glued to the screen or being ultra focused on leveling as fast as possible, but to me , from the POV of a brand new player... 4 months to Flag seems slower than it should.

I'm an old salty sailor so kinda use to the grey blue look of things in life. So I hope they keep the OW/Battle UI close to the same very simple. Now ports on the other hand could use a big up lift in looks. It looks like we are still playing on a DOS computer or something. Any one notice the OW repair got a nice update in looks. Now that is what I like and it looks great. For those that haven't noticed this but ya the new repair option is nice with the transparent look to it and finally fixing the ship card info. This is a screen from testbed but the point is there more of this would be nice to the OW UI as crew manage is still the old block format and update the in port UI and I would be happy. 2

I think that it is good that this isn't the type of game where you can get end game gear within a week or even a couple of weeks. On top of that the 5th and 4th rates are on average the most played ship classes in the game regardless of rank, so if you don't have a SoL you'll still be able to go into battle with equaly competitive gear most of the time. If you can sail a 5th/4th rate there is always a job for you PvP and RvR wise. SoL's are fun, but if they have a choice I think nearly every hardcore captain would choose a 4th/5th rate battle over any SoL battle. Its not the kind of game where having end game gear is key to victory, its mostly skill that will get you victories. Skill is more important than the gear. 1
EdWatchmaker Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Awesome input from the players and I thank Admin for the responses. So many things swirling in my mind so atm I'll only focus on the UI in port. I already realize this would probably be a bear to do but given I also play Elder Scrolls I know it is possible. Let us be able to create an avatar. Then when you dock at any port the UI would look like the inside of a tavern where we would interact with the port and with fellow captains that are currently in that port and of course the AI Port Authority. Clans owning a port would have the ability to customize the avatar of the AI Port Captain. Bulletin boards could give contracts to buy and sell ships, materials and goods etc. You could get missions etc by interacting with the Port Captain or rogue AIs sitting around tables. Possibly a warehouse UI where you could bid on various goods that have been put up for sale by players or the AI. I know this is really dreaming but I would love to be able to look out the window and see the ships riding at anchor or tied up at the docks. When I arrive at a port and see all the nice buildings I have such a desire to explore, go in them and, where I have an OP, to have my own house. Oh, one more thing. Because I have dogs in real life I would love to have a sea dog avatar. I've just been nose bumped and told by my dog to get back to reality. Fair winds and happy sailing.
Hodo Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I would love to see them actually give a reason to sail something other than a heavy 5th rate, or bigger. Currently all we have going is the 4th rate or bigger ship sailing around. No point for 6th rates or below. 3
