Any good story needs a hook,

So because I suck at this game, I clearly deserve a reward and those Frenchies should always be punished. :P

It's too soon to spoil the end of this one as we are not yet aware of all the facts.

Chapter 1: The Facts

TL;DR

I believe this needs to be established as fact, so we may properly find a solution for the stalemate we have reached.

Here we don't know how to close exploits in pvp as battles can be arranged.

I feel offended, how can rewarding be exploited?

I do on the other hand think the guy that got jumped should get some rewards if he took it  like a man and fought his ass off. I'm a proponent for a system that gives rewards based on BR difference and skill level. Skill level is tough to measure, but if a no name can defeat a pvp legend in equal ships he should get a waterfall of rewards.

No. If a no name defeats a legend, there is something fishy. I'll show you (and admin) what lies behind the smoke created by man.

Chapter 2: The griefer be-grieved?

French come to Christiansted, which is a shielded Capital, so the standing orders change to "never undock", except for some "national" who did not get the message.

Is the smoke clearing or thickening up?

A huge problem that one side tries to delay another by shooting at max range and they are usually in faster ships that can keep the distance. Problem is that one side has no intentions to fight but forces enemy to stay in battle.

Kiting (keeping enemy in the battle) is a battle mechanic within a timed battle instance within a current ruleset.

By engaging hunters with small ships you effectively cast smoke into the eyes of your enemy and allow your own traders to make their runs safely back to harbor.

It is impossible to differentiate time wasting from actual kiting with a purpose (for example to keep you in combat until help arrives.

Staying in battle with no intention to fight or win is griefing.

I can agree to an extend. There is an intention, it's just not to fight.

So far my only recourse has been, just go for coffee. Maybe at some point I'll think of something better.

If folks feel they are being treated unfairly, then they will begrudge the game (or the dev team) and subsequently will leave it.

And in this one is just about everyone is feeling being treated unfairly. But rules are rules and if we can agree on proper rules, then we can still feel being treated unfairly but not claim it anymore.

I'm always open to suggestions and I agree that someone being kited is treated unfairly. However he got himself into that position in the first place and this game is not about treating everyone fair. (Else we'll never catch that one trader ship laden with valuable goodies.)

Lest I lose my notes. ^_^

Who was the griefer?

King of Crowns going after traders?

Or me kiting KoC to keep the traders safe?

And what about the French resorting to using an alt to bring the kiter down?

Back to the topic, who actually deserves a reward?

If only all the nations would line up a steady stream of poorly outfitted 4th rates to sail out every 30 minutes with a small group of traders full of expensive goods on the hour.

Once per Season is more than enough. :P

Now sailing to a free-port is a different matter, it requires skill or dominance of the area. Otherwise you'll lose. And trust me we've lost millions of gold and thousands of hours, because we took a risk.

Moving from Brangman's Bluff to Christiansted was a similar exercise. ^_^
