Uhm, yes. So what about fishing boats? Will we be able to sail out to sea and do some "interesting" stuff? Or maybe become a transport?

If there are no fishing boats, what shall we pirates plunder? Merchs will be heavily escorted, I hear. =P

Pirates will have to skulk about waiting for that lone ship that is chancing it on their own, or maybe team up with another "trustworthy pirate" in the hopes of out numbering their prey...as will the privateers.  If the open world is half as good as the ship combat so far...I have high hopes for a very engaging game!

Good thing I got rid of that pesky wife who was less inclined to let me sail away for hours.

Is there any chance to swap out the premium ship "armoured yacht" for some kind of starting (unarmed?) trade vessel? An old fluyt, e.g.?

For on the one hand I don't necessarily need to shoot at others, on the other the Yacht does not suit my visual taste. (My brother thinks of joining NA, too, but just does not like the looks of that 20$ ship too much...)

It is good to see some, like myself, who are more interested in the merchant sailing than the fighting. I love the sea and sailing ships, but have no love for the swashbuckling life. So I second and third the motion to let there be another part of this game than PvP and PvE and so on.

He knows the yacht is optional, right? In the sea trials you don't even have to use it to progress.

Yes I know. What I meant: if the Devs want it to be a treat, it might be an idea to offer an unarmed alternative. Because the Yacht, excellently designed as it is, just doesn't fit my (and maybe others') taste and playstyle.

Navies need something to protect, pirates need something to steel, privateers need to make a difference.....   There will be merchant ships.

Navies especially need someone to pay them.

Why will not every fraction have a big fleet of 1st rates? Because they need

-ammunition

-food

-cordage

-sails

-timber

-water

etc. in hellish quantities. And I hope that only groups with an active trading fleet wil be able to afford the bigger ships.

That sounds like a very good reason to having trading ships. Definitely hitting two birds with one stone if you can limit large ship of the lines at the same time. :)
