Rigol Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 A quick question. When an enemy brigade has very low condition and/or morale, does it begin to suffer more casualties from gunfire? I know low morale can cause a retreat from good cover or into a bad position, but I'm wondering if there's an additional effect. I'm asking because I'm never sure whether it's best to keep shooting at an enemy brigade when it's running away with low morale (thinking I'll tear it to shreds - which doesn't usually happen) or whether it's usually best to immediately start shooting at a different enemy brigade.
Nick Thomadis Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 There is no direct modifier that affects casualties in relation to morale or condition. However the lower the morale or condition, you notice the unit to reload slower, inflict less casualties because of efficiency drop, delay to aim or start to move with less cohesion, resulting to wavering or retreat. When the unit retreats, it usually exposes flanks or rear and then it gets many more casualties.
Rigol Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Thanks so much. Yes I'd forgotten about the flank/rear modifier, which especially answers my question. Great stuff. Great game. I will dust-off the old Johnny Reb 2 tabletop ACW miniature wargame sometime. 1
Nick Thomadis Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Additionally, fighting with low morale or condition does not let you to charge or go near enemies with confidence because the unit will most likely fall back or retreat. Generally morale and condition are very important to maintain high through out the battle. I have fought in multiplayer with opponents who tired their units quickly, making them useless for the rest of the battle, resulting to defeats with double or more casualties. So, someone who is not experienced how these two factors affect the tactics, will surely get some humiliating defeats, thinking that there is some kind of cheat 3
