Ruthless4u Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Was OW originally intended to be part of the game, or only added at the request of players. Seen conflicting information on this and was wondering what is originally intended.
Kanay Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 (edited) Not sure what was supposed to be at the very start , i started to look at this game a bit before the end of 2014 for naval fighting and old ships but what decided me and made me buy this game was this particular announcement : http://www.navalaction.com/blog/2014/9/14/exploration-gameplay Older blog articles on this link might provide an answer to the question, don't have time to look back at the first ones now tho Edited July 5, 2017 by Kanay 2
Guest Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I don't know but the majority of players bought the game after it arrived on Steam and as far as I know it has had an OW since the outset on Steam.

Macjimm Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) I bought the game a long time ago when it was just a big circle of players throwing cannon balls at each other. But from the first day that I heard of it there was the promise of an open world, trading and fleeing from combat. I would never have bought the game if it was described as merely "Naval ACTION Competitive E-Sport Battles". I have always understood we would enjoy Open World with long distance sailing. Originally exploration was proposed but I understand the Devs have since decided not to have any exploration. [It seems that the Devs are convinced that exploration is only possible if we are able to walk on land.] Purchased from NA on 11 Feb 2015 Edited July 6, 2017 by Macjimm Date of purchace 1
karacho Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I have bought the game on 24 January 2015. I bought and loved it for the battles and great feel of the ships. Sea Trials were one of my best gaming times ever! (I play for more than 30 years) As soon as I see the OW the first time I was alarmed. The speed boating was shocking and the feel of sailing did not exist. I never get over this and so I was never a friend of OW and therefore I am more than happy with the announcment of NAVAL LEGENDS.
Kanay Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) The first time they showed us a video of the OW work in progress with the accelerated speed for ships it put me away from the game for a bit , there was some hot debates that followed this on forums, most were expecting ships to not be motorboats in OW, that's what suggested at the start... It is worse now in the current state of the game with ships doing 33-34Kn in OW, honestly it feels just ridiculous now to cross a big part of the map in 35 minutes sailing with ships being speedboats. Many of us were expecting to sail and not see a bit of land for a while, it was already too fast before and they decided to increase even more OW speeds, now you don't have any feeling of sailing in an OW anymore, exploration and unknown lands had been a must too, always regretted and always will regret to not see this added to the game. Ole Pinelle Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 It could have been made differently than it is now f.e. plot your course on 2D map, press "set sail" and proceed on your route accelerated. You drop out of this 2D mode if another hostile sails is spotted on the horizon or if you wish just to sail along at certain spots. So you could enjoy just sailing around, but still make it playable. At least I really miss the feeling of just sailing at certain places and the speed boat feeling is somewhat depressing, but I guess they wanted to show off the nice graphics...
Ole Pinelle Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 This all and all the problems raised with it would not be necessary, if the devs would have choosen another approach. It would be completely different, I gues you find your answer yourself, if think about it. All the current mechanics are just workarounds made up to deal with problem caused by the time acceleration different dimensions of travel. There is little about sailing in naval action and the RvR is mostly about the best exploit/use of the actual meta and game mechanic, which was introduced to validate another game mechanic, which was introduced to lower the exploit of a game mechanic. 1
Mrdoomed Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I used to watch sea trials on twitch before ow started and said to myself wow this game is pretty and has some nice battles. 2 hours later i said well its pretty but damn this is boring BUT i heard and read that ow was the goal. Like many here I would never have dropped 40 bucks on a boring moba game that i could already play for free. A little secret though, that devs cant figure out is the reason the game died is because MOST people who bought this game on steam release where like me and actually knew how big the worl was and how difficult things could be in a sandbox mmo so when the devs in thier wisdom listening to clicker kids, carebear, and mega clan completely changed the OW everyone quit. Now they ENDLESSLY tinker with splinters from cannons or add a .008 rollback etc to combat thinking this is the problem lol. A little hint from the thousands that quit, would tell you the game was overall great on day one as far as ow went. The death of this game rest solely on the devs.
