Maybe I should qualify I don't really like PBs nor large ships where you get a ton of xp, and most of my pvp has been surprise or lower, usually surprise, renomee, rattlesnake, niagara, privateer, or lynx.  Pvp has higher rewards, but missions are quicker because they are closer to port, basically 1 minute of sailing to.

This game is not even released and people already leaving it. Don't compare released MMOs with 2-3 years of life. This project is a bust.

Being released or a bust isn't relevant. It is an MMO and a viable comparison to any MMO that has ever been created or any MMO still yet to be created that ends up just like every other. You are confusing genre with success which are two entirely different things.

Maybe, maybe not but time will tell.

Who knows how many will come back at release. Just wait and see and give feedback

I came back got ganked in my suprise right near KPR now I can't be arsed to grind again so I'm off too

To much of a time sink to bother grinding just for an entire fleet to take on one basic ship

For my part, I know something changed when I realized, rather than afk sailing and watching youtube, I really just preferred watching youtube.

Even free ships have a value.

Sorry my comment was sarcasm that the individual can't replace something he got for free in the first place.

Pre-wipe the game was predictable and boring.  No risk all reward.  Sorry but that isnt fun to me.  No thrill in that.  Some of the best women I have been with I have had to work at to get.  The best fish I ever ate was the fish I spent an hour trying to real in.   I dont like easy.  If I wanted easy I would play Hello Kitty Online or WoW where I could macro my way through the game.

I dont like parts of the patch, but I have adapted.  But the game is far better now than it was with the magic 5 life boats.

Game is too much time consuming on all levels atm.

I dont mind working for bigger ships etc. I can live with that. But when you need hours of repetitive boring "gameplay" to replace BASIC ships (6-7 rates) with BASIC equipment ... then any game will fail. And thats just a tip of an iceberg. This game have so many flaws it`s remarkable. And devs circle arround with same things changing again and again, and avoiding real problems.

It takes 15min to replace a 6th rate and 5min to replace a 7th rate.  You can buy them on the market for around 25k or less.

I know I can make that in 2 or 3 missions in a Snow, or 1 good LGV capture.

Slight exaggeration? Since one 7th rate is free and a few 10/15 min missions will buy you a 6th rate the only thing I can surmise is you must be the Jabba da Hutt of gaming. You want to lay on your soft couch while people hand feed you.

I am not saying this game doesn't have flaws and apparently you don't like it but needing hours to replace 6th or 7th rates means you never learned how to play Naval Action. Have you tried a clan?

The waving e-peens, you should realize, is a wave goodbye.

maybe it is because several of us dont understand how it is so hard to get a 6th rate?

The hardest thing I have done this patch has been build a tier 2 shipyard, which has taken several weeks of off and on trade runs and mission grinding.   Just to get the money,  then the labor hours to get the resources to upgrade.  But tonight I will have it done.   I am pretty casual, I spend more time on the forums than in game lately.

I enjoy this game pretty much as it is (I sail PvE).  Yeah, it could be better but my idea of what better is is probably rather different than yours (I'd make OW sailing much more difficult w/ variable winds and wind direction, a real night instead of what Bodo Norway sees in June, and MUCH more control over sails -- and I'd want that before they fix the problems with the economy).

If this game had hit Steam on June 1 in its current form (instead of being EA for 2+ years), I do wonder what the reviews would be saying.  My hunch is wildly positive.

The waving e-peens,

I don't think you understand what the reference e-peen means.

Bragging about killing 7 guys in a 1v7 fight is waving your e-peen. Doing something so simple that a child could do it, like raising 10k to 25k of cash to buy a 7th or 6th rate is the exact opposite of waving an e-peen.

In a world the shakes its head in disgust at masculinity and has been neutering boys for decads the new version of epeen is probably very tiny and shameful so doing even the simplest thing is probably a massive accomplishment worthy of waving a tiny e-flap at .

Yes this is humor so dont all yall get your panties in a wad :)

The difficulty lies in we are experienced captains.  New players are not.  They don't know the gunnery system, they can't judge distance, they don't know manual sailing.

So when a new player - or a player who isn't any good or is a casual - does a mission and there are 3 ships in there they are probably going to get their sterns handed to them.  So it is quite a bit to replace ships for these sets of players.  And this I do understand, because I don't think new players should have to go up against 3 ships in low level missions.  Those in cutters are more likely to get stuck in the wind without knowing how to get out than they are of defeating their enemies.  Those in brigs or snows are going to be sending too many broadsides into the waves to be able to kill the two basic snows and basic brig in the combat mission (not fleet mission) and they aren't going to get the 200-400xp, 6 combat marks, and 20k gold we do.  Plus they probably aren't going to have the required carronades or repairs (can't afford them) to do this mission.

I understand, and agree the midshipman missions are a bit stupid right now for a new player.  But the same token I also dont believe you need caronades to do missions.

And I also believe that to many noobs are trying to learn the game on their own.  Without a proper tutorial this is extremely difficult, they should ask for help, there are often enough helpful people online to give advice or even go help them run missions.

There is an old Christian saying, "God does not help those who do not help themselves first."
