Area Control - Outlaw Battles - unable to leave battle no matter how far away I get

I was playing with a buddy who is just getting started in the game, and we tagged an NPC pirate outside Mortimer. My buddy was in a Basic Cutter and couldn't join the battle (as Basic Cutters apparently can't particpate in Outlaw Battles) and I've got the Area Control perk and despite sailing many KMs away from the AI, was not able to leave battle due to "Control" being active.

Is that intended? If you have Area Control in an Outlaw Battle, you cannot leave the battle until all enemy have sunk / escape? That seems like a bug.

and be carefull if you board and capture a players ship. If you put equal crew on it, it will try to board you back and keep fighting even though it's your captured ship.  Yah the outlaw battles still have a lot of buggy issues still with them. We don't run control any more cause it's caused other issues so haven't came across this problem.  Did you F11?

I didn't F11, but I'll try it again and see if I get the same result. If so I will F11 it then.
