Lovec1990 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Greetings, im quite new and currently still sailling basic cutter, but time is coming for new ship and my wishes are: -It must be ship meant for solo gameplay so no Line ships -it must be cappable of taking on LGV with ease -preferebly fast too chase traders brigs So witch ship fits this profile?
Arthur Peckington Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 What rank are you? If you are in a basic cutter I would guess 1 or 2? Ships need a minimum crew to operate. You unlock more crew as you level. The first ship that meets your criteria would be the Surprise. You need to be Rank 6 (Master and Commander or equivalent.) 1
Lovec1990 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Yes im aware that i do not have enough crew, but is any other ship besides suprise further down? Edited June 27, 2017 by Lovec1990
Prater Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) No need to wait until you rank up, a speed fitted Privateer or Pickle will be capable to do all that. If you plan to pve, you don't need to speed fit, but if you are going to hunt player trader brigs, you need to be speed fit. And yes, these schooners can easily take on LGVs Edited June 27, 2017 by Prater 2
monk33y Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Use your basic cutter until you can fund carnos. Then the basic missions will be finished in 10-15mins. Grind up 100k then move up a ship. Until you are able to find a nice niece to make money, basic cutter is fool proof.

There are 4 ships that come to mind. Privateer Snow Pickle Cutter Those 4 ships are cheap and easy to get, and outfit. They can easily take out LGVs, and Trader Brigs run by NPCs, and any trader brig run by a player. 1
Werewolf Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Echo what Hodo said. I run a privateer and pickle myself. My favorite ship to solo traders in by far is the Surprise. Very good speed, turning, guns, armor.. it has bow chasers to keep stuff tagged, and stern chasers to get rid of unwanted company. The sailing profile is very forgiving, able to outrun almost every ship equal to or larger than herself on any given sailing point. She crosses irons at 8 knots if done right, and with carronades mounted she is absolutely devastating. Het biggest drawback is sail health. A carronade armed opponent firing chain will shred your sails to uselessness in three well placed broadsides, so be aware of that or vring lots of rig repairs. Belle poule is a great ship too, but lacks bow chasers. Also, to make Surprise really shine, you MUST manual sail her. She responds strongly to manual sailing, stronger than most. You've already gotten great advice in this thread. I'd recommend any of the 7th rates. You can already start taking on AI LGVs with your current Basic Cutter, and I strongly recommend this as it's a great source of seed income for a solo player. Check out the AI LGV contest thread for ideas about how to cap one - with practice you should be able to do it in around 20min or less. The rewards are excellent, about double what you get for capping a NPC Trader Brig. Strongly recommended! As regards capping player traders with 7th rates: - First off, you must have the "Fleet 1" captain's perk enabled if you are going to capture player ships and keep them. Until you have that enabled, I'd focus on grinding AI LGVs for money, loot and XP. - Next, look into the "Area Control" and "Prepared" captain's perks. Area Control prevents anyone (including you) from escaping if they are within 750m of you. This is hugely important for keeping players from getting away. Prepared lets you start the battle instance with cannons loaded, letting you (if you have a good tag) get an early chain shot in right after the sails are raised. - The Privateer is the fastest upwind but the slowest downwind. Fastest ship in the game when closehauled (wind approx. 30-35* to bow). This has two implications: it's the easiest to run away with, but one of the harder to capture square rigged trade vessels with. It requires that you get a good tag and take immediate and aggressive measures to chain the trader's sails down before he escapes. However, it has decent armor and six guns per side, so it's a very good ship - just takes a bit more skill to use effectively. - The Lynx is the fastest ship in the game (at least stock, before mods) and has a wide range of decent points of sail. Fastest on a beam reach (wind approx. 90* to hull). Like the Privateer, it suffers when on a dead run (straight downwind) and it has the least armor and guns of any ship in the game, so it's quite weak and potentially fragile. But it's tremendously fast on a beam reach and close hauled, meaning it's a bit easier to get good tags with than the Privateer. - The Pickle is not quite as strong upwind as the Privateer or Lynx (meaning you have to be a bit more careful when escaping from "the coast guard"), but it more than makes up for this with the best downwind performance of any of the schooners. It's still not as good as a dedicated square rigger downwind, but it's quite a bit better than the Lynx and Privateer. It also has some of the best armor in the 7th rate class and carries six guns. Many captains love it for these reasons. The turn rate unmodified is a bit slower than the Lynx and Privateer, so it's a bit less agile in the stern-camping situations you'll often find yourself in when taking down stern armor and graping in preparation for boarding. - The Cutter is one that sees rare use, because so many people are sick of the Basic Cutter and can't stand the idea of more of the same, but it's actually a very good ship. It is sort of in the middle of the three other ships - not quite as good on any point of sail as the best, but without the glaring weaknesses (i.e. Privateer downwind). It also has a good deal of armor and can carry six guns. Downsides are only one mast (so it can be disabled more easily than the two mast schooners) and a low open deck with low armor, making it one of the most vulnerable to grapeshot rakes (I learned this the hard way, once, and now use it to my advantage whenever facing a Cutter captain). But it's tough and capable, for sure. 2

Lovec1990 Posted June 29, 2017 Author Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) Thank you all for your help i went with snow untill i have a crew big enough for suprise or frigate Edited June 29, 2017 by Lovec1990 correcting grammar issues
Lovec1990 Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 Greeting me again, I went with Frigate now im thinking about my end ship and i narowed it down on three ships? -Endymoin -Constitution -indefatigable Witch ship would be best for hunting traders and fighting other players?
Hodo Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Endymoin is the better of the three you listed for that task. It is the fastest, and has chasers, and is pretty decent in OW at catching ships downwind. BUT it handles like a school bus, same for the Indefatigable. But the Indefatigable is a good all around hunter, same for the Constitution which is faster and has more firepower. Honestly I love the Indefatigable and the Constitution over the Endymoin which is based solely on its sailing profile being so narrow.
Lovec1990 Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 So Endymoin is only fast in narrow sailing profile, if so then its Indefatigable or constitution one question is constitution alot better than Indefatigable ?
Prater Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Are you solo or group? If solo, you always go for speed, and something you aren't afraid to lose. Indy is good for pve. You can solo 100k+ gold and 20+ combat marks in one fleet mission if you are decent, so it isn't a bad idea to have one for that. Personally, I'd stay away from the Indy and the Constitution for pvp if you are solo pvping. I know several pretty good pvpers who have lost their conis recently solo. If you are in a group, they are good at group pvp. Solo pvp ships currently available in game: Surprise Lynx Privateer Endymion (always be aware of your surroundings) Renomee Brig (maybe) Pickle (maybe) solo pvp ships not available: Rattlesnake Niagara Group pvp: Every ship 2

I'd add to this "...and cheap, so you can put a good stock of them in your hunting outpost for when the inevitable losses happen." I like the Lynx and Privateer for solo hunting. They are so inexpensive that you can stockpile a few (even sail them in fleet to your hunting outpost) and that way you can stay "on station" for longer. And it doesn't hurt anywhere near so bad to lose one when the inevitable happens. And it will happen... eventually
