Captain Lust Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 How exactly is OW speed calculated? What factors play a role?
1 Prater Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Well, the knots value is how fast you travel 400 coordinate units per minute. A lot of things can affect this speed, such as weight, ship type, modules, knowledge, etc. 1
1 Hodo Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I believe it is 2*battle speed of ship at that point of sail. This does not include any mast or sail bonuses like studding sails or stay sails. BUT does include hard increases, like copper plating, lead sheeting, speed trim. So if you have a Snow that does 12kn at 135 in battle, it will do 24 kn in OW at 135. 2
0 Prater Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I forgot to mention OW speed is roughly double your battle speed. I do not think the cap applies though. I got my Lynx to 15 knots battle and I was getting 31 knots OW. I applied optimized ballast and I now hit 34 knots OW, 15 knots battle with 96% sails. 1
0 DeRuyter Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Cargo weight does effect OW speed. Not sure how much the reduction is, but if you overload your ship with battle loot your speed will be very noticeably reduced.

That is because I dont think the speed cap in battle affects your open world speed. So you can reach 34-35kn OW.
