mueganra Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 How do Fires and Fire likelihood %s get calculated? I've driven Fir and Bermuda Cedar ships where the API shows Fire Rate of 6.5% to 11% and rarely caught on fire. Recently I have tried running a Teak/Sabicu Trincomalee (-7.5% fire rate) using Open Magazines (+5% fire) and every battle I caught fire (even with long range grazes). I know part of that is unluckiness, but shouldn't the fire resistance of woods stack with/counter the increased fire chance of Open Magazines?
Hodo Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 The wood is just the resistance to damage from fire. The Open magazine is an increase at fire chance.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Wood resistance to fire means the fire won't spread as fast. The wood won't burn as fast. Fire chance is by shots hitting wherever gunpowder is. Magazine just happens to be a large gunpowder container. 1

So your ships before might have a better located Magazine compared to your current ship. If you learn where a ships mag is and start to target that area of a ship you have a better chance to set them on fire. I been working on figuring some of these locations out and testing this. I do believe even some of the bigger ships have more than one. They are located on the ships according to historic location of the powder magazine so prob some of this data can be looked up. Though the location I think is more related to the ship exploding. The fires are started from sparks. When a cannon ball hits a cannon or something else that could cause a spark and it gives it a chance of starting a fire in certain areas of a ship. 2
Norfolk nChance Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 @mueganra This is an old question I asked, but even out dated it gives you a clue to the chance effect of a fire. If time read down the thread and I sort of worked out how to make a fire ship without the mod. Its stacking with multipliers. The medium cannons fired repeatedly in a short time that over stresses. The compounding effects of Open Mag Access layers in easily. Post wipe the woods surrounding like you suspect impact. The chance hit of the magazine is very small. Magazine detonation is usually a secondary event after cannon breach, FIRE SHOCK, then open gunpowder ignites. From the Trinc upward it becomes easier for ignition because you have more cannons giving a higher possible event. hope it helps in some way
AngryPanCake Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Played a fleet combat mission with another player (who was helping me) and he caught fire 4 times in the same battle. He was using Open Magazine (or whatever the perk is).
