i'm really starting to enjoy this awesomely monster  patch!  I bet it'll get better and better by the day.  the dev's have restored my faith in them.  don't get me wrong i'm sure there are some issues that need to be worked out.  but Grats!  nice patch.

as i said we are looking at the money supply very carefully. but its too early to make decisions. We are not saying its enough, or not enough - yet.

how did you lose your surp btw. any feedback on combat?

In a PvP fight cause we have a group of french that are fully decked out in ships no runing block aid on the trade runs on Mort to La Tor. I left with some ships and only half gun cause it was all I could afford to help stop them from raiding on our traders   Didn't do so well with just bottom deck guns. I have no complaint on the combat it's the cost hit to some one that doesn't have means to make money to replace them easly..  This is far and such, but the point is you say cheap ship, it's not cheap.  I didn't even bought that ship as it's one of the free ships.  But a player that did would be devastated and no way to get money back cause now he has no trade ship and no fighting ship.  He's back to a basic cutter and can't afford to produce his econ cause he's out of money.

Which is the reason I'm in the shallows now trying to make money grinding out ships with my basic cutter.

@admin has the ability to switch from your ship to your fleet ship while in a battle been removed?

a good feature for a single player game turned into a grotesque by mmo players. Players were using forts for non stop easy farming of loot on testbed. As NPCs are dumb and just sailed to their death non stop. 600 line ships in one evening.

and it was abused before by groups too.  We would hit a few US players in the Bahamas so it would be a 2 vs 3 or 3 vs 5 with them all ways having the more numbers.  The first thing they would do is run to the Forts and hide under them while they chew us up.

The simple solution is to just not reward players for what the Forts kill, thought ya'll already do that.  The problem I see is that they don't fire at AI fleets with a player either and some of these ports I listed we where fighting players and they did not fire on the players either.

Its already like that

Forts get the kill and the marks and the money. Player can get an assist if he did some damage. but if fort outdps the player fort gets the kills

Yah but we had a fright they didn't fire on either players of either side.  It's been F11.  If it happens again that they don't fire at the players we will F11 it.

Have you considered revisiting the idea of capturing NPC ships?  Perhaps not letting the players actually capture and use, but auto selling them to the admiralty similar to what you did with 4th rates and above prior to the patch.  Obviously not at the inflated levels they were previously, but in the system currently there is no need to actually board an AI ship and capture the cargo intact.  Sink and loot while she's under the water.  Zero risk.  Seems kinda stupid that you can sink a ship and still loot it.  Should be one or the other right?

We will buy pve marks maybe at fixed prices.  But ships must end up on the bottom of the sea. Because a captured 4th rate is as good as a crafted one.

But giving the brits ONE port with coal (a kinda base resource and arguably a prodigious one IRL) and that ONE port being next to the Danish Cap. seems...well a tad harsh...can you give us some lovely coal in a less daft place please. Its to constraining on getting a nation started.

Hmmm, we swedes dont have ANY coal port in the begining. We have to fight for coal. In terms of balance i hope that is the same for all other nations.

Just the 24 9pb's for the lower deck on the Surprise was 70K.  Since I lost the fight I lost both ship (which was free) and cannons so that set me back.  Since I no longer have a Trader Brig either I"m stuck with a basic cutter.

Basic cutter with basic guns is free and it has free repairs. If you sink, it does not matter (except the loot in the hold). Use basic cutter for easy missions or NPC trader looting and get some capital. That's what I did yesterday. I still have all redeemable ships because I have not used them yet. I have been grinding mission with clanmates and now I have 3 outposts and some buildings. And I'm out of money until I sell the stuff I have produced.

I would like to know how someone has got 2 million, but I'm sure it is possible if you know what you are doing. So far this version of the game is much better than the version we had last year, although there are some small things I would like to have.

1) Slightly easier navigation. I don't need constant coordinates, but it would be nice if you could measure (click a button) your location time to time. There could be e.g. 15 minute cooldown between measurements. I would like to have grid lines in the map and perhaps you could mark those measured coordinates in the map (0.1 degree accuracy). Or if you think this could be exploited, maybe you could get location every 15 minutes instead of clicking a button. This would help you during long journeys, but it does not make navigation too easy. Also a tool for measuring distances and headings would be nice to have (in the game).

2) Better tooltips in the maps. I think you should see what each port is producing if you have visited that port.

3) Tooltips in ship knowledge. Now it shows what you must do to open next slot, but it would be nice to see if that slot opens a slot in some other ship. E.g. "450/500 xp, opens slot 3 in Surprise"

4) In game tools for crafting so that you can plan which woods to use for frames and planking.

These are all UI so I think there is hope we get something like this when the devs start developing the final UI. Of course, I would like to have raids and improved hostility generations and RvR.

I have 4 outposts (soon to buy 2 more), 2 buildings , outfitted all my ships.. bought snow and lynx.  and about to sell 2100 coal at capital for an easy 300k.    Its doable folks. Just like real life.  But yes.. 25k seed money would have been good for everyone.

The cash flow at the start is horrible. I will keep at it to see if I can find some kind of work around to making gold. It does seem that everything has some kind of fee or tax attached to it in order to do anything. Yes, you state that I will be able to craft 6 pound long cannons for my Pickle cheaply BUT first I have to drop 150,000 gold in order to build a Lvl 1 workshop. Don't forget that I also have to supply all of the damn building materials for that workshop including 500 oak logs Iron ingots etc. etc. As I said I will give this a shot but one thing that I find really frustrating is the redeemable ships that we received. It seems that my redeemable ships were severely damaged during delivery and they are in need of extensive repairs in order to be seaworthy. So much for free ships. So I figured that I would just sell them and use the capitol to help start out. apparently my redeemable ships are only worth 2 gold.

EDIT: I looked at the redeemable ships again. It turns out that they are NOT actually damaged. I assumed this because of all the red negative numbers on the pop up screen. They aren't damaged, they are just an inferior build.

I play just a couple hours a day and gold income is very slow, in two days of just low level missioning in basic cutter (so, newbie style) I built up three outposts and two buildings and did not start harvesting.

In order to let people gain expertise for good all around ships I suggest to increase the missions available in solo up to 5th rates (post captain).

I suggest also to make the expertise of basic cutter to count both for pickle AND privateer unlocks, so that one can choose both ships paths without having to grind regular cutter in order to shift to privateer.

The real problem with the lack of gold in game is that the actual economy is based on exotic commodities like  historical artefacts which have excessive prices 150k +. This is how some players have two million in the two days since the wipe. In my eye's this the total abomination in the game. if you know where they are produced and milk that supply then you are rich the rest of us are lucky to be able to by guns. dev's need to stop catering to the few who some how know the location of these commodities. get rid of them and sort out a real economy, it has been two years of development please get it right now, perhaps a economist would help on the development team

Doing solely PvP starting from newbie rank, nothing redeemed, two captains already established outposts, bought guns, bought a new clan, and additional shop ships - schooners - on top of the captured ships ( pickles, trader brigs and a surprise ). The clan bank has a "insurance" reserve that can cover the need for guns and stands at about 60k.

No mission running at all, a couple NPC traders nailed in the lull between PvP ( cider and tobacco cargo ). Only OW hunting.

Progression feels on par, given mostly captures and not sinkings so rewards are the cargo and the ships. Ship knowledge building up nicely and will be a breeze from now on unless we really mess up.

Best thing is to keep a cash reserve that covers a full loss, kind a 100% insurance.

( Basic Cutters cost nothing to equip and run, repairs are fully free all the time same as replacing lost guns if basic cannons )

What nations?   Just wondering and by the way newbie rank doesn't mean they are newbie players.  Again if I play how I know things I would have a good big stocked up.  I just make 200K making trade runs in the shallows away from the hot zones on my alt, but that is cause I know what to buy and sale and where to get them.  Even got into a little cutter vs cutter match I just lost, but my Trader Brig in fleet (empty that protected so it get away).  I'm pretty sure he wasn't a newbie midshipman either cause he knew exactly how to take my mast down and crew, but than I wasn't extactly playing a maxed out char either as I haven't redeembed my xp on that char and only have ranked him up enough to run  a cutter with a T Brig.   I can do that all day long if I want to on my alt to make money, but that gets boreing just making trade runs.

That is only 2 1/2 hours.  They did all that in 2 1/2 hours?  Uh you might want to check on how some one did all that in 2 1/2 hours.
