On a side note...  Some douche-canoe decide to jump my fight and board the pickle I had just taken down to 18 crew.

Luckily for me, he did not realize you had to 'X' to assign crew and loot the ship after the boarding.  I got both the kill and its 20 rig repairs.

Bwahahahahaha

the coordinate conversation can be closed Captains. We released the game without them 80000 players played without them and were happy.
we tested it with coordinates too and i don't like it.

Getting lost is a magic moment. And we plan to stick to this decision now.

Awesome.

There are only 2 things i dont like about this patch.

1. The join timer. Instant close was better

2. how you leave the battle. invisibility dont solve what it should.

it partially solves the reverse ganking problem. its the only purpose of the invisibility. it gives both sides  the chance to separate.

Question about servers. Will my XP be on all of the servers? I am in Australia and considering changing to Global because the ping is better. But want to have my XP and am worried about not being able to return to EU server (with my XP) if the population is no good in global?

It should be if you went to all servers and sync'd your xp before the wipe.

In a way its not true. i got tagged 4 times by the same guy. He knows your ship and he knows which way you will go when you leave otherwise you are to slow to get seperated. Was really annoying to get tagged so often.

1 durability ships, and a global server with no restrictions on port battles?!?!?

The 2 things I wanted more than anything from this game, I think I just died and went to heaven!

I have 2 questions regarding changes:

1)  Ship transport between outpost removed, Resource transport between free towns removed, teleport to Freetown removed, and outpost to outpost transport is now only available between national towns.

  • I am a little bit fuzzy on the details here, but how am I going to get resources from far away ports to where I am constructing ships?  If I need say live oak to build some ships, am I going to have to sail all the way across the map and back in a trade ship to get live oak if I am say a Swede?
  • I will be ok with this change if required resources like live oak are not throttled down to 2 ports and is plentiful all over the map.  I haven't had a chance to log on yet and take a look but i am a little bit concerned about these changes.
  • Remember, time spent in a trade ship is time not spent in a war ship.  I do like trading and crafting, but I would like to spend more of my time battling than trading and crafting.  The perfect balance between trading and crafting is when we just built ships at free ports and had materials we needed shiped there.  Trading was something we did 1 or 2 times a week for an hour, and the rest of our time was spent in warships enjoying the combat.  When I log on after my 8 hour day of work, I have maybe 2 hours to play, I do not want to be spending 1 hour sailing around in a trade ship to do crafting every night.  (this is just my initial concern looking through your patch notes, I haven't had a chance to test it out yet)

2)  Not sure if I am understanding the changes to regional bonuses, looks like I need a book now that I am assuming I get from a specific region to craft regional bonuses on my ships.  Is this correct?  Are the regional bonuses 1 time use then we need another book or blueprint?

@adminInitial thoughts so far:

The inability to convert PvE marks to PvP marks is a mistake. This will only encourage people to alt-farm or engage in PvP circle-jerks with "accepted battle" agreements. That's not fun, and it's not emergent or dynamic. Even if both of these activities are restricted, it will enable and encourage people to actively seek PvP, and it will quickly devolve into the "haves" and "have-nots" - having knowledge books require PvP-based resources with no secondary route to achieve them will only make the so-called Hardcore PvP crowd only better able to perform said PvP, while those that they prey on will be perpetually disadvantaged without access to the same knowledge books. In other words, without a means to acquire PvP marks at an increased cost through other means, those that are successful in PvP will only have a greater edge at being successful in PvP while those who are not successful can never have that same edge, even through increased effort in other areas.

I have mixed feelings on the removal of GPS. I feel like a small number of the overall player base were highly vocal in the "Magic Moments" thread regarding the excitement and mystique they felt with having to navigate by landmarks and rough judgement. Unfortunately, you haven't removed GPS: By using F11, players can still acquire coordinate data in order to use math or external tools to calculate their position and desired heading. All this change has resulted in is a higher barrier of entry for more casual players to enjoy the game. I would strongly advise against the removal of GPS without some other in-game means of navigation tool, such as a map compass and protractor (enter tool mode, click start point, drag to end point, get distance and heading, does not show your current position though). Navigating blind is not for everyone.

Aside from these two points, I feel like the patch is overall amazing and excellent. The removal of free-town teles, the new damage/structure model for ships, removal of ship persistence after capture/sinking (durability), the move to knowledge-based systems for ship upgrades (even though I'm not personally a fan of nested ship knowledge dependencies), and the new ship trim and construction systems are all just the highlights of my approval. The game just -feels- closer to being ready for prime time with this update.

If I had to assign a number to my level of satisfaction...probably 88 out of 100. Very high, needs some tweaks and improvements, but things are well on their way to excellence. Already I am pestering the crap out of friends to get/return to the game.

I can only redeem my craft/XP on EU server ?

Does that mean I can only play on EU or is this a bug ?

Did you have a character on the other servers before the patch? Did you check they were synchronised (had the same rank and crafting levels) across the servers? if you did then F11 it. If you didn't, then that's kind of it. This was flagged over quite a few week now.

Check the forum and you will see quite a few people with the same and similar problem. Some I am sure did not have their accounts synched before that patch but there are some who did but still have a mismatch across servers (me included) so there 'may' be problem with the wipe, hence suggesting you also F11 it. We may all be mistaken or there may be a bug - give the Devs a chance to check it out.

Oh and to answer your specific question, there is nothing stopping you (or me) playing on any of the servers. Whether you want to may depend on what the Devs find :)

Howdy!

Just a few questions/concerns I have. If i'm not mistaken, there will basically be two PVP servers, the EU and Global. As I see it, the EU server is in fact the old PVP 1 EU. As for the Global, I guess it replaces the PVP USA.

As a North american player working for the Danes in PVP 1 EU, I find it quite sad that there will be battle time zones for PBs. For me and a lot of other NA players, this means we will only be able to take parts in PBs that are scheduled in the weekends. Otherwise, we will be at work/school during the PBs happening over night in EU (in the afternoon for us).

Otherwise, congrats for the patch! It looks promising! Thank god you remove the GPS...

Thank you, miLord!

Good patch I think.

We went out from Gustavia to Christiansted for some PvP in 4 Pickles. You instantly find action everywhere. We could even decide who we want to attack: Do we want to gank this trader guy covered with 2 basic cutters or do we want to try to board that juicy Surprise....

Also ships having a much higher value is actually really nice, at least at the first look.

Not too sure about trading goods, but it looks like you still need to transport them from capital to capital for max profit. This combined with no alliances means a lot of tension, fights and future drama. I like it.

The only part so far I still dislike is the need to grind every ship instead of every class. It forces me to sail ships I dont want to sail.

Edit: PvP battles also still dont give enough gold. I get more from a solo mission on lowest level then from killing an enemy and getting 2 assists.

So let me understand you are complaining about PB times on the EU server as an American player now that there is a GLOBAL server with no restrictions?

There wasn't enough players on PVP USA, meaning it was a lot more interesting to play on PVP 1 EU. Maybe this will change with this patch, I don't know.

To make it clear, I'm not complaining. We know it was a concern because most of the NA players were working for the USA or GB, capping ports over night. I truly accept the decision made by admins. It's just a sad day for me learning I will take parts in less PBs than before.

Except for that, which it's not even that bad, I'm looking forward to play tonight!!

The same thing happens to friends and me when we played for the US on pvp1. Attacking PB around 2am up to 4am. No chance for Us to participate in PB only when a port must be defendet. And if we lost the battle came some americans and called us dump or things like that.

And the best part of it they was seen in chat houres befor battle starts and dont came up to defend.
