casacerian Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Could someone break this down for me? Would it be starting a battle and then walking away from the computer for the duration?
David Fair Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I think you are asking about is walking away from a game against the AI? If yes, then this is what testers are calling "no click battles". The test evaluates how much the game is doing vs. how much impact the player has when they are actively commanding units. You start a game - then you walk away or watch to evaluate outcomes. In the past this was also a technique to unlock scenarios. I would take some of the VP locations then go mow my lawn. When I returned voila - a new series of games were unlocked and ready for testing. Now that Nick has decided to unlock all of the scenarios this silliness is no longer necessary.
RichardMcCor Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I just played a set of no-click battles as Union in scenario 1 using 1.02 Played against most of the AI commanders Union still got a draw or win against most of them which seems a little worse than 1.01 no hot fix when the AI won sometimes. A few things i notice in 1.02 - AI brigades Davies and Brockenburh chase videttes to much. I just played against risky and notice that he could have won at oak ridge but davies left the VP to chase devins videttes so CSA lost the VP. - AI arty seems to hang back more than in 1.01 - AI use of commander to support it's best brigade seems better. Sticks with it more. 1
Nick Thomadis Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 In v1.03 we fix a bug that made AI to have disadvantage... no bonus, but disadvantage, resulting in lower morale. In v1.03 AI will be radically enhanced, without the needs of bonuses, but we will add them as well for ultimate challenge.
RichardMcCor Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Would it help AI development if there was a more formal way of giving you AI specific feedback i.e. not treat it like a bug/crash report but request AI feedback on a simple template that has perhaps critical info you need like which side you are on, what AI personality, what rev of game, screenshot , other info you may wish you had that would help?
Nick Thomadis Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 After v1.03 we will discuss. Thanks for your offer. 1
Bluebeard Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Uh, silly question, but how do you set up a no click battle?
RichardMcCor Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Bluebeard - its simple. Start the game single player, select the side you want to play (and the side that will be no click) and select the enemy side's AI personality as normal. Start the battle and fight as normal. When the game starts just do nothing but watch the AI. I.E. don't give your units any commands. Simply scroll and watch what the AI does. Laugh as it fails to know your troops will not move under your command. Marvel as your own troops do react somewhat due to Darths AI Be amazed as Union in scenario 1 as your reinforcements march onto the field, pause to shoot up the CSA and then continue on to their pre-assigned positions Be sad as the AI fails to exploit your no click troops and fails to capture your VP Document your fav AI moves in this forum so all can hear all about it Take time to send darth helpful hints on how he can improve his AI in future Look forward to the next dot release of the game and repeat all the above actions 2
MikeK Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The "no click battle" is similar to what is known in Civil War gaming circles as a "McClellan" but serves a different purpose. 3
