I was playing the other day and I was thinking about a certain area of the player base that either don't have great internet and the game is too laggy and/or just want to sail alone and have it their way. I spent some good time thinking about some possibilities and I would like to have it heard out first. I know it's a small dev team and I don't know th eexact coding of the game but I want to make this suggestion and point out ways so the game does not need to be tweaked much. Firstly the xp system for a possible single player/offline play would be separated from the PvP/PvE servers entirely so you can't just grind in the solo and then join the competitive servers. Another thing is the possibility of the AI being able to start naval/port battles on their own and possibly manage their diplomacy if that is possible so it's not a stagnant game. Next is possibly faster travel in open world only for single/offline, though not entirely necessary. A similar and somewhat fixed economy with buying and selling goods and such like in PvE except you can't put something on the market and instead sell based on the quality of the object. Not a whole lot of changes, just something for those who want to play alone or don't have good enough internet to play on the servers. If anyone has any other suggestions you can go ahead and put it in. If the devs like it that's great, but if they turn it down I won't be heartbroken.

Could be interesting, for sure, especially with a solo campaign or scenario for each nation (you are a privateer with France for example, could be really really interesting)

Don't need 3D characters or cinematics, just a nice story written and some "quests" or "tasks" to do, like destroy/board a ship in a big area, take it back to port etc... and ofc some drama to the story, it would definitely be an awesome solo game, and a good way to learn the game's mechanics, the map etc.

That sounds like a campaign though. remember the dev team is pretty small so I doubt they'd do something like that, but does sound interesting. I was thinking something along the lines of just being able to do a kind of conquer the Caribbean like in the regular game but instead make some tweaks so you can do it on your own and make it not be hellishly long either.

I know this is a small team, but it would be cool to open the game to the Steam Workshop for the singleplayer mode then. (no mods for online servers)

I'd LOVE to see some player-made ships or other stuff, like scenarios for singleplayer. So now I'm asking the devs : Is a singleplayer mode planned ? And if yes, what about the Steam Workshop ? :)

Workshop does sound nice but that would probably be for another topic. But mods for single player might work, if the devs agree

Isn't singleplayer basically the same as pve but with events?

Yeah but it's local so you can play without being online = no ping

And the bots are more important, they can attack you etc.
