Forgot to mention I had a weird bug this weekend (I reported it), anyone else had the following situation?

I believe this was after the hotfix on saturday. I sailed out to do a 375xp fleet mission in my consti. The mission was right in front of Port Morant (at the forts). I sailed up and upon entering the mission the following happened.

The loading screen took a above average time to get me into battle, after a while I got a message pop up real fast (couldn't read it), i thought I just DC'd, but I didn't. It brought me to a combat result screen (so no battle, but immediatly went to combat result screen), it said battle reward 5000 gold and 166XP (if I recall correctly). After that I TP'd to friendly port. I still had 2 missions open, but I couldn't open a 3rd one. As if I still had 3 open, but only 2 were showing. So I cancelled these two active ones. After which I could open 3 battles.

I was in a battle when I got the "server will shut down for upate", I ended that battle well in time before server was updated. So I wasn't half stuck in a previous battle, I was at a port when I logged out for the server to update. So I don't think it was a bug that had to do with the update.

Well I think even a lost fight should provide XP after all.

Most MMO Games give someting even if its lost battle...

I faced the same weird situation twice on last Weekend. There popped up a message 'Try Shift + ESC to escape battle' or something like that.

It is possible. You hunt players who trade. And they DO trade.
the most common player ship i have seen has been this

uyNl2BO.jpg

I hope I can get rich through killing enemy warships too if Im good at it. Traders are boring for me, they just run and dont want to fight.

Its no second job.

All you have to do collect logs, ore, etc... every two days. For 10min of your time fabricate it into a sub part and put that up onto the market and sell it to make your money. You can actually make an enormous amount of money doing this in the right spots.

You don't need to grind to sail any ship in the game. But if you want elite level skill unlocks on that ship you will. Your choice.

Pure PVP can buy everything on the admiralty shop including ships.  Theoretically you don't have to do econ ever if your very good at pvp.

You assume that I am a good fighter. Well i am NOT a good fighter, which makes me loose a lot and get NOTHING for my trouble. Giving that we STOPPED giving prizes for participation @admin"

I'm pretty sure there been a few battles and port battles where fellow players wished they could do this to folks that cowardly ran even with even odds.   Seen this so many times on PvP2 where if we meet them close numbers of equal numbers most the times the Nationals would run and leave folks behind.

Ya'll really should put in a reputation system in game for kills and fights and than have something on there for the guys that run from fights....like a coward reward lol

Cause there where captians that where know for running more than fighting even in those days  lol

I've just noticed some materials on sale in a port, which are clearly not player-made. I thought both resources and materials can be produced and put on sale by players only.

So far as I can tell, the following are available in small quantities (about the same daily increment and cap as a level 1 building) in the ports where the resource is found:

  • Copper Ore
  • Gold
  • Red Wood Log
  • Silver

According to the Trader Tool, Bermuda Cedar is also seeded at Flatts, but I have not been there to check :)

The first 2.99 build also had Mahogany Logs in Carlisle which isn't a Mahogany port, so there may be some other oddities. Of course they, and for that matter the materials you saw, could have been dumped there by another player. But I'm pretty convinced the four I listed really are seeded.

I've seen ca 2k iron fittings on sale in Mortimer town and other two materials in very small quantities. No sign of those materials being sold on a contract placed by a players. That is why I am wondering.

So in the past 4 pages all I have seen is a HUGE amount of whining, and very little actual thought of how things can be done.

I started at max rank with repair kits and medkits, I went out bought a brig, YES a brig, put 16 18pd carronades on it and 2 medium guns in the stern.  Went out with my ship found a few traders to capture to get some craptastic trade goods to dump off, and break up the ships for spare parts.

Ran 3 second LT missions, sank all three ships made over around 25k from those missions.

If you used the repair kit and XP redeemable, anecdotes as to the ease of progression are scarcely relevant.

Obviously the progression is very simple when you Redeem a huge pile of repair kits, cash and XP. New players won't have that advantage.

Missions give a lot of cash, but 80% of it often goes away when crew costs come into play. Not to mention the issue that OW hunting is usually much less reward for far more risk.

Ok, I've just found a few hunderd iron ingots and fittings at the rather unlikely port of Bugle Cay. Naturally I bought them :)

Again IF you know how to sail you can minimize your crew losses.

I rarely IF ever lose more than 10men in a battle when sailing a Brig.  Medkits are easy to produce, and actually easier than hull repairs or rig repairs.   Which arent that hard either.

You can make on average 7-9k per 2LT mission and if you lose 10-20men on a Brig you will cost out at most 1k in overhead.  Factor in repairs you are looking at 1.2k in expenses.

And if u are at RA rank you coud sail a ship with less than 310 crew and if not have more than this 310 u get after every battle the reserve crew filled up to 310. If u lose from 280 man 20 u can put them on your ship and reservecrew get filled up to 310 without any cost.

I only used 2 times medkits and i only buyed onetime crew.

But i dont know how many freecrew a 2ltd or any other rank has if u start as midshipman.

You missing the point. You do not pay for lost crew. New player looses 20 crew it costs him 20x500=10K crew cost cost. He makes 12 -15 k per mission. After crew and repairs 2-4 k left. To get to 2 lvls lower misions you have to do basic cutter mission for first three levels. How many new players will grind thru that? There is no manual to tell them how to do that, they will get a better ship without free crew and repairs, go broke and quit. If they know to stay 2 lvls behind they will make it. But it also will slow down their grind significantly.

Any word on the next patch as I am not coming back until I see XP, Marks, and money implemented in Capturing ships. As it Stands now I am already at a disadvantage if I wish to capture a boat and use upgrades with my fire rate so low.  (NPC don't have this problem)  So if I capture a boat as is, I get no XP, No Marks, and No money.(boat wont sell for anything and never has any goods on it). If they are going to go with kills as the only way to get anything.(Assist don't even count). When it changes someone let me know.

Be safe

Read what I wrote. I said new player. Personally I would grape your brig to nothing in first few broadsides ( assuming broadside/stern is available), but AI is not aware of that, neither is new player.

Cheers

If you lose 20 men and have to hire them afterwards, that costs 10,000 gold. Add in 1,000 for repairs and that's 80-90% of your profits for a normal mission.

If you are content to stay in shallows, then yes stay 2 leves behind and grind forever. Try your tactic in Connie (thats 3 levels behind Curse rank). You have to buy crew off the bet, and you will loose a few unless you are seal clubing low lvl missions (then it is 100+ missions to upgrade).

I am not a fan of massive PVE grind on PVP server. It teaches you (me) wrong habits. PVE is carronade centric world, not hard to control engagement distance. PVP is different game, this is PVP server. Very little of PVE translates to PVP (its good place to practice manual sailing and wind cotrol, but engagement is weak on AI side). You can play PVE with long/madium to pretend its PVP but its artificial, and engagement distance control is way to easy. AI does not chain or grape, AI just too predictable.

You  can be profitable fighting your way. Why be on PVP server then? Your suggestion is good for PVE, I do one trade run make 400-500k to support my Pirate habit for the day. I risk crew and ships. I take higher lvls fleet messions, I PVP when I can. Its more rewarding to me then seal clubbing.

To each its own.
