Remus Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 They are used to level the playing field a little, to give slower, weaker ships at least some chance of escape. Speed is a particular problem. Almost every other trait you choose to buff means you haven't buffed something else, so you have a weakness. But with speed you will be able to excape a superior enemy and so not suffer any ill effects for your completely one-sided build.

Yah what I'm liking is some of the perks have negative effects. Like they added Moral penality to Hammocks, Magizines get better chance to catch fire. Your pitch/roll I think gets adjusted for Staysails. These are good things to offset certain perks/mods that you can stack. A faster ship should have other bad side effects like bad turning or weaker armor to achieve the maxed out speed.
