Hardcase726 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 What do you think are the best weapons for each unit type? Let me know your opinion.
Andre Bolkonsky Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Rapid fire: Henry Rifles Melee: Fayettevilles Thus endeth the lesson.
The Soldier Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Best Bang-for-Buck: CS Richmond due to it's similar stats to the Springfield M1861 yet having 81 melee versus the 59 of others. Best in general: Springfield M1863 / Faytteville. Repeaters just aren't worth using, meh.
Hitorishizuka Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Repeaters are amazing on units that can get into close range, I just wouldn't want them on every unit. Skirmishers on Hunter rifles so you don't get outscaled and enemy Skirmishers drop Spencers, which are one of the best Ranged Cavalry weapons. (The actual best Skirmisher weapons are the scoped rifles but you screw yourself if you use those.) Artillery is the 24pdrs and it isn't really close to the second place.
The Soldier Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Oh, repeaters on Cavalry is god-like powerful. Though to get enough repeaters to arm your cavalry with Spencers, you kind of have to game the system. And yea, 24pdr Howitzers are by far the best artillery in the game. The 3-Inch Ordnance Rifle is still a damn fine piece of artillery, but nowhere near the gibbing levels of the 24pdr Howitzers. They're exorbitantly expensive and rare as rocking horse shit though, so I usually don't run more than 2 or 3 batteries of the guns at a time (since they need to be near the front, you're liable to lose a couple guns every battle).
_Masterviolin Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 (edited) 18-pdr long guns mostly, do well to take down masts and useful for range. High penetration too. wait a second... Edited April 15, 2017 by _Masterviolin 1
Col_Kelly Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 If you think of cost efficiency the m1855 and the enfield 53 are the best choices. You can equip two entire corps with them (even on hard where weapons capture is lowered) and they aren't that inferior to fayettevile or m1863. Buy as much as you can with rep and money.
Wright29 Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 If you really, really want to talk about cost efficiency, the most effective weapon is the Farmer for Confederates/Springfield 42 for Union. If there were no captured weapons, they would get you the most bang for your buck. Fortunately, there is weapon capture and the Springfield 55 is the "basic" weapon that your entire army should end up with by Chancellorsville. Spending money on infantry guns is a waste. Spend it on veteran 24 Howitzer units instead!
The Soldier Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 (edited) If you think about the scaling involved, the M1841 Mississippi rifles would be the best. Since it's a rifle, it has much, much improved accuracy over the muskets, yet still retains excellent melee rating. Cheap tooo. But the kicker is, you can equip your entire Army with these and the enemy will still have Palmettos (as Union weaponry jumps from Palmettos to Lorenz / M1855s). However, only the Confedereates can really leverage this since they're the only ones to get M1841s. Edited April 15, 2017 by The Soldier 1
