Many people have talked about having the ability to move "freely" between PvP and PVE servers. And by "freely" I understood having one character used to play on both servers while keeping Rank and Craft XP, ships and everything else (if I misunderstood, then the rest of the post below is a moot point).

That would be a good way to transition new players who had started on the PvE server and try the more challenging PvP server. To remain engaging, PvP has to keep growing by attracting more players. PvE can be a spring board for PvP.

So I started logging back on to some of the MMO's (with multiple servers) I was playing not too long ago and see how it was done there. Almost all of them are fast paced, lobby type and purely PvP games. Only a few offer PvE and PvP (Armored Warfare, World of Warships).

As far as jumping from one server to another (EU to US and vice versa), they all require new characters. You can not bring your US server character with all it's vehicles/ships/XP/Gold to the EU server. So, I assume there must be a limiting factor that prevents that from taking place and NA must not be different. This is a warning you get when you try to switch servers on AW. WoWs, WT, and WoT all allow as many characters on different servers as you want, but do not allow carrying over of XP, ranks, vehicles from one server to another.

As far as separate PvE/PvP modes, AW and WoWs offer these options, however, they are both on the same sever. For instance, AW lobby:

Your character can choose PvE or PvP missions and PvE rewards are then used in PvP mode and vice versa. But, they all take place on one server. Usually rewards from PvE missions are lower than in PvP missions. In AW, many beginners start with PvE to level up and then when they have decent vehicles, module/crew updates/perks and feel they can compete in PvP, they move up to more challenging battlefields. Some others, elect to remain in PvE as their chosen play style.

This is the description of PvE mode in WoWs, they call it Co-Op:

So, it clearly appears that characters can not move "freely" from one server to another according to the games above that have been around for a while and would have done it if it were feasible. However, some of them do host both modes (PvP-PvE) on each server. The big difference, and it's really a big one, between the above mentioned games and NA is that they are Lobby based missions. You click go into battle and you are queued in line for the next battle. Here, we have an open world and an amazing one for that mater. Players are freely roaming around, going from port to port and interacting with the environment and each other. We also have lobby style battles such as the new PvE missions in the testbed that take you straight into battle without having to sail to a location. NA also has a goods production/gathering system these other games don't have (I'm not familiar with EVE online, who some players have talked about, so I can't really make an informed comparison).

The question I have is: Is it technically possible to have 2 OW's on one server, one for PvE and one for PvP?

If the answer is a yes, then each player will be able to use one character per server and be able to switch back and forth from PvE to PvP while keeping ships, XP, goods and crafts.

Only played on pvp, and having both modes in one sounds meh as you could just change to pve and get all you need at no risk and then go fight on pvp.

I will try to keep this brief and lay it out for you, as well as others, to understand. While right now your persona is a character on all servers only the XP for rank and XP for crafting are the only items that are kept up to date on all servers you have your character on (updates are through the XP files on steam). Money, mats, ships and any other items you have in your possessions do not transfer at all. What you gain on the PvE cannot be relocated or taken with you when you go to either of the PvP servers, visa-versa (or even between the two PvP servers – its the same thing).

When the wipe happens the XP points you gain from that point forward on one server will not transfer to any other server. All servers will be isolated from one another. If you have a character on all three servers you will have three different persona, each unique to the server they reside on, as the link to steam will be broken from the wipe forward. Each advancement made before the wipe carries to all your characters on each server (one per server) but after the wipe your XP on one server will not pass to a character on another server eliminating the gains from one server to be used on another server. Remember the only gains here are experience points.

You cannot just slide from one server to another. Each requires a complete disconnect before gaining access to another server. All the servers could be on different machines or in the housing of a single machine. It makes no deference where the servers are to play. They could very well be in my machine for all that technology has to offer these days. The point here is each server is a separate stand alone game in a machine somewhere in the world with the current PvE and PvP(eu) housed at the same location, somewhere in Europe.

Thank you for your thoughts and illustrations but I think you had missed the point a bit. Then if one person missed it so can others.

Rack up the XP's as you can and spread them to your other foot holds on the other servers while you can. Shortly it will not be an option.

Remember it is: One Name with Two Games.
