And I hate to think of the hours I wasted playing Hamurabi on the school's RML380Z. A hollow voice says 'plugh' 1

Have I seen instances of it in chat or in combat ("get rekt" etc) sure, but more often than not I see people saying have fun, good game etc. If you sail alone of course you may get caught by a squadron out hunting or you may get away. In my clan there are a number of people in the 40 plus range including several guys who are retired. People reminiscing about the beginnings of PC gaming in the late 1980s for example!! I am also a tabletop gamer which is all pvp all the time. So I think it is a misnomer that the pvp server in NA is populated by badly behaving kids. DeRuyter, did you just call me an old fart!?!??!?!

If that sounds better to you than a PvE zone then I ask you express your support to the link below. we had neutral fraction everyone was using alts to mess up the economy globaly since no one can touch you except pirates. 1

In the thread he provided the conditions that PvE would be operating under. No one wants risk-free economy or gameplay interacting with the normal server, but his suggestion is the best to-date which creates economic risk and extra effort to any kind of alt use, which seems to nip the entire alt-abuse concept in the bud (extra effort/risk). Eliminating the alt abuse was my primary concern and he addressed it. If we are to make room for PvE faction, Wesreidau's suggestion is the best to-date. My biggest thing against PvE as a separate but equal concept is it doesn't really reward 'pvp' (being in a pvp server doesn't mean one is piranha pvper, I don't pvp lately, but I like being in the eco-environment that is controlled by the waves created from pvp and the 'war') players equitably for the extra risk they take to sail around the game. It could be argued that the risk itself is the immersion/value factor that needs no extra extra benefit. If trade and such is to be allowed by PvE players, shouldn't it be considered fair for the crowns to charge a fee for the extra protection afforded PvE players? If all nations and pirates are to recognize non-aggression PvE, then that economic and open sea advantage should be taxed in some form. Edited March 24, 2017 by Kiefer Cain
Macjimm Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 (edited) This is a very enlightening thread. Never considered that having a PvP area is distinctly different from a PvP free server. Perhaps a massive PvE zone and a small PvP zone would help everyone. It would focus the players who want to fight each other into a small area thus increasing their chances for conflict. Perhaps having PvE channels for more civilized chat could help. Perhaps a whole new set of PvE islands in the mid Atlantic would be better than just the gulf of mexico I use the PvE server occasionally but the comments here make want to spend more time there. The attitude there sounds very positive. My experience on the PvP server has been really positive also, but I use a small fast ship only and focus diligently on watching for the foe when making trade runs in OW. From the comments here it sounds like there are more safe options for coopertive gameplay on PvE than I realized. Wondering how much the cost of operating a lttle server for the few hundred PvEers would cost? I wouldn't mind contributing some real cash to keep a server going for PvE. It would be healthy for NA to keep the option alive. I agree a lot of future players may buy the game because of the options available. If the game was really cheap it wouldn't matter so much but if it remains pricey the PvP free option may be a deciding factor for many to make the purchase. Thanks again for expressing your views. It has helped to understand the community. The critisism from the PvPers was interesting ... telling the PvE players that their preferences are incorrect. Edited March 24, 2017 by Macjimm 1
OLDGOAT Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 -Yes Wesreidau, I am aboard your ship with your suggestion. I am from the old school gamers (75 yrs old) been playing all types of games and yes I do not like PVP, sorry. Having all players (PVE,PVP) on the same server would work and improve relationship between the 2 factions by PVE making ships and gear for the PVPers and PVP doing the escort work protecting the PVEers from ambushing AI's as they do their non combat trade runs. I know the devs have a problem getting players to fill the servers., how about this? 1. With the option of PVE having to agree to be flagged PVP before accepting the combat challenge. 2. Any aggresive AI's attack resolve only if they can destroy or out run the AI threat. Think this would help everyone in the game, and promote increased recruiting. Just my added thoughts on how to make a already GREAT game even better. Of course the devs know what can and cannot be done in the game. They have the final work on this. thanks for your time all fair winds always
