Okay, when did the wind dynamics change in Port Battles?  Before today, the port battle wind matched the outside world.

I had a port battle today and entered with the wind in my favor at Old Providence.  Upon entering, I was in a dead wind and literally could do no more than 1.7 knots.  After 20 minutes, the wind changed clockwise for about 15 minutes and the stopped moving.

As a side note the defenders did not appear near the city but at a location in the circles with the wind at their most favorable.

MODS/DEVS:  If you make a change this significant do you think you should post an announcement?  At least, I think you should.

Did you enter the PB at the moment that it started? The wind freezes in the PB instance at the moment the PB opens up. If you stay in OW the wind will keep moving there, but not inside the PB.

We had a long sail against the wind to make the PB hence we arrived just in the nick of time. We saw "Longdong Latte" outside and we were surprised he didn't try to tag us as you were already in the PB on your own. But that's how it goes sometimes. With the wind issue you appeared to be on the same tack as us initially on entry, we were averaging 3 knots?

Entered 8 minutes after start.  GF Flipper and plus!  I tacked but couldn't get more than 1.7 knots, wind shift was no help, when it shifted back counterclockwise I got 3 knots but after nearly 45 minutes I made it to 1st cap so me being there was pointless.  Oh well, lesson is don't go late on attack or don't go at all.  Not sure why U guys didn't enter near city though.

As a clan we thought due respect should be shown and given to the attacking nation by us at least being there. So the 2 of us from ELITE who were available set out to get there very early due to distance and headwinds. We arrived at location 10 to 15 minutes after the PB start hence we entered the PB as soon as we touched the inner circle for fear of missing the entry window. We were very surprised on the attacking numbers, as we had expected to go down fighting against massive opposition imbalance as a minimum or at least to be bounced by some of the [BLACK] Brethren on approach. However none of the latter made an appearance, we obviously tracked Longdong Latte outside on approach and were expecting him to tag us holding us out of the PB but obviously this did not happen. I would like to state we would of stayed to the bitter end either way and were a little disappointed when you guys escaped, but there is always next time. Fair winds....o7

The wind direction in the PB will be set at the start of the battle and not move for 20 minutes.  In OW the wind will keep turning.  I noticed this when I joined the Les Cayes port battle very late where OW wind was favorable, only to be sailing directly into the wind in the PB.

I tried to look around on this and couldn't find any hard statement. Did the Dev's ever publish facts or numbers on this ?

1. OW wind speed directional timer? How long does it take? Same rate and a constant same for force I believe?

2. Battle Entry - assumed the wind would start in the same direction (when Port Battle timer is triggered, and not the PCs entry point) and rotate slower by a factor of 5 (order of magnitude) to represent the slower time in the box universe?

Have looked and can't find anything concrete. Will check Redii's 20 minute rule which actually sort of makes sense with the timer compared to the OW Time Rate

OW wind rotates 360 degrees in 48 minutes afaik.

The moment that the PB pops up the wind in the PB will be the same direction as in OW. The wind will then be static for 20 min (like redii said) before starting to move randomly one direction or the other.

big thanks Anolytic,

So after PB starts 20mins then Random direction I suppose for those arriving late on purpose

Great now ya'll are going to know how we get the wind lol

Actually you can find out the wind until after server reset and than you use the formula to find out how the wind will be when the port battle starts later that day.   We been pretty lucky with most of ours to get wind we can work with (1st attack of Vera Cruz wasn't one of the lucky ones).

Next thing folks are going to find out what our secret killer broad side is (DOUBLE SHOT at point blank hurts and Double charge at distances helps pens) or that we have super tanked out special pirate ships (LO, Stiffness, Hull strength build and freaking angle your ship when being shot at).

But lets not tell the Nationals on PvP2 these things....lol

hahahahahahaha come on I'm still learning....

Yep just done the excel sheet now... many thanks Anolytic, Redii, Sir Texas and all... o7

spread sheet?   I could use something like that.  I suck at this math thing been waiting for some one to make an app to work it out or something lol.

But really we got called hacks again by a few last night after the PB cause of bouncing balls and being able to melt ships.  I'm about ready to screen shot my PB ships and show them my freaking build.   Which isn't some crappy store bought ship or one made to run.

So that spread sheet let me know how close you are to the wind.  When I timed it it's not exactly 48 mins. It's something like 48.57 or something like that  so you might want to time the rotation yourself.  Just pick a point and time it to see how long it takes to get a full rotation.

1. You input the wind Direction is now  from and it will tell you where the wind will be within the next maintenance cycle at the PB start. UTC all included.

2. I can tell if a D-DOS mod app is used but I need to be logged on to the server at the time. Usage basically stopped after ppl got wind of what I did and so too the Dev's. I Don't want to start with that again. And beside there is no Games-Labs Rule saying you Can't use them... Only rules apply to chat window infringements

3. The spreadsheet needs testing... will let you know the results....

again many thanks

Maybe we will flip a Brit port this week to let you test it out....I'll just tell every one it's in the name of testing and Norfolk said we can do it. Just won't tell you which one yet...lol

I told the guys before we merge for the PvP Global server we will take Texas cause I mean I have to own Texas and I dought I'll ever get a chance once it turns PvE zone....lol   I have a Brit port I want to hit too, but that one you will just have to wait until it happens.

Pssst. It's what Danish PvP1 fleet uses too. For Captains who know how to tank I build Stiffness ships and for players with unknown skill level I give them a Build Strength ship captured off a Brit.
