william1993 Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Why is it whenever one is trying to fallback a brigade, they go sideways? Why not just straight back (even though it will block fire from friendlies behind)
The Soldier Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 It depends on where the AI thinks is the highest concentration of troops. If that happens to be on the left flank of the brigade that received the Fallback order, then they'll shuffle to the right. Both reasonable and infuriating sometimes.
william1993 Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 But they wre supposed to go backwards, not sideways also, why isn't there buttons for shift brigade left or right. Soldiers did that in real life. In-game, I have to move the whole brigade back and around then put them in the new position. Also, why are there not more formations? Like column or line or diamond or something? Would these be possible in future patches or would it mean changing the whole game engine?
Don't Escrow Taxes Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 I see why this is difficult to program the AI to do this. Ideally the unit would fall back toward better cover, unless that direction isolates the brigade (surrounded on 3 sides, let's say) from other friendly units. Tough to program for sure.
A. P. Hill Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Either way it's a damned sight better than telling your unit to turn it's back and be rear flanked ... and lose it entirely possibly.
Fred Sanford Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 I'd like to have the fallback command include a second step where you click on the map to specify direction.
