AngryPanCake Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Hear ye hear ye, The AngryPancake has taken the plunge into the drink. He is now one of them newbs who is going to pester everyone with questions like: "I got the game, now what do I do?", "Are you supposed to only sail in a straight line if you are in a ship of the line?" or "Is starboard the front or the back of the ship?" Anyway, I just spent a fortune on this game (second most expensive game I've ever purchased in the past 20 years, the first one was 688(I) Hunter Killer) and hope I'll enjoy it thoroughly as much as I enjoyed Port Royal games years ago. I've been reading the forums to learn more about the game, also I wanted to thank the people that responded to my very first post and seemed to be helpful and encouraging. I'll see you guys in the open world and wish you all lots of maple syrup (pancake...maple syrup...you get it!). 9

Ask questions in the Help or Global chat and you will normally get answers. The same with questions asked in your nation chat. Which server are you playing on? Which nation is your character in? 1
Crayon Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Stern = back part of ship Bow = Front part port = left side (think 4 letters for left) Starboard = right side Since your probably in a cutter at this point, a perpendicular heading from the wind is your fastest speed (where the wind is turning to). Wind always turns counter clockwise in the game. 2
AngryPanCake Posted February 20, 2017 Author Posted February 20, 2017 thanks guys, I'm starting in PvE. The graphics are amazing! Crayon, thanks for the info...I don't care what they say here about you, you are a good guy (or gal) 2

People also occasionally use some more terms if they are really getting into their roleplay on top of the ones Crayon said Fore = Front of ship Aft = Back Larboard = left side of ship (the word predating port) Its also advisable you get to grips with manual sails as soon as you can, which takes a bit of practise the gif below will help you understand the basics of what your sails need to be up to in battle.http://i.imgur.com/tPKJOoY.gifv Welcome to the game, and forums. Best of luck to you Edited February 20, 2017 by Fluffy Fishy 1

Crayon, thanks for the info...I don't care what they say here about you, you are a good guy (or gal) Starting on PVE is a good thing. Just to learn the basics. But it does reward to switch to one of the PVp servers in due time, since they are more populated and a lot more busy and interactive. This is helped by the fact that you keep your rank across servers, so your rank on PVE = your rank on other servers when you create a character. I switched over from PVE when I was rank 3 and never regretted a thing. Generally there are a lot of clans that can help you get set up with ships and upgraes when you join a nation (especially on PVP1, PVP2 as well, but it is less populated, so less chance of running into somebody). But whatever your choice, welcome to the game and enjoy it 2
blakdog Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) Heya AngryPancake, I've got some notes here that might help. These were compiled from chat snippets while talking to people in the game. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y8LiUtZRnxMUu5sbDnRRr6ikaMvYmIHeS00cCVHUy_M/edit?usp=sharing blakdog ps - Use "Tools">>"Document Outline" to get an Index on the left. Makes it much easier to navigate the doc. Edited February 26, 2017 by blakdog extra tip 1
