The learning curve is so steep in this game. The developers claim that there are many new players that join the game every day but our peak populations on PVP1 range from 500-700. Where are all of these new players? I'm going to bet that a large majority of those people quit within a few hours or days because nobody has any idea what to do. Adding a tutorial would solve the population problem over time. Doing a steam sale after this tutorial is introduced would boost population and I would bet that a majority of those new people would stay.

Tutorials are hard. Our game is not really very hard to learn. Its hard to master but not hard to learn.

Also - Saying add a tutorial = spend 12 months, designing, coding, testing and tuning a tutorial. Remember we have 2 coders. UI is more important than tutorial.  Please don't offer us to hire more programmers as we cannot afford them for several known reasons.

Go get some random people, give them the game for free, and tell them to rank up one level and craft a ship without asking the community. They won't know how to do anything. A full blown tutorial is hard but little tip boxes that say "Hey do missions to rank yourself up" etc.. can't possibly be that hard.

You are mistaken

Rust has no tutorial, minecraft has no tutorial and 6 year olds played it without any problem. Please don't pander to customers and don't consider them idiots. We serve intelligent human beings.

For many learning is a process and game itself.

As a new player back at the start of the summer, I found this game very difficult to learn.  The UI is and still isn't user friendly.  It was only through player made content like Olav or Jeheils videos that I was able to learn a few things.  As a PC gamer since the days of floppy disks, I don't think I've encountered a game with quite as much of a learning curve as this one.  I've also been a Blizzard friends and family beta tester for about 10 years now, so I know my way around new games.

I believe you mentioned Admin that the problem is getting new players out of brigs.  A tutorial would help you towards that goal.  Don't have the budget?  Go pay someone like Jeheil or Olav 200 bucks to make a video tutorial (or series) officially sanctioned by game labs and make sure every new player has the option to view it.

This game is a bit more complex than hitting pixelated blocks with a pickaxe.

So you're comparing the difficulty of Naval Action to Minecraft... I am mistaken that a tutorial will change anything? What do you think the community does? The community and other players helping each other is how noobs turn into veterans... But without talking to the community people will have no idea.
