Thonys Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 hi captains / Dev's Well at the moment i have the highest rank a player can get sailing a ship but i am in need for a better career i suppose i need a Vice admiral, and a Admiral rank. (and admiral flags in OW/battle ) (just some thoughts) to go :full force with my fleet (every vice Admiral had his own squadron of (+4)ships ) where the rear admiral is a officer on the ship as a extra officer (2 perk ponts extra) and a 450 men extra >total 1550 men therefore i can take 2 more fleet ships in the total fleet aswell building 3 more outposts and 3x2 more buildings A Admiral gets a Additional political advisor, therefore giving the player (in the current political system 10 votes) but for the rank below of a captain only 1 vote, a captain gets 3 votes and so on and a +450 men extra > total 2000 men (also the political advisor is also the OLD lord protector [flagsystem flag builder] ) and is the only one to buy/ plant the flag) Captains how do you feel about this, don't you have ambitions to?.... discuss 5

Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Practice was 2 escort man'owars per state sanctioned convoy, usually 6 to 12 transports which could have also some guns. The big dutch anglo trading fleet that went to the mediterranean, 100+ strong, had some half a dozen warships included. Let me rummage through the port reports and see how private trader small entrepreneurs handled it...

Rovers do play safe. The ratio in place at the moment is 1 trade vessel for 2 warships. You mean to change to more historical ratio or what... ?
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Another thing is that the Career topics are confusing. Are you pointing to a Navy Career, a Maritime Trader career, navy board Political Career, or something else ? The fleet I can see with a Navy career, production and trade buildings for a Trader, etc etc I can't read any exclusive and inclusive suggestions.

Well i believe the game must provide you the tools to make your own career no matter what you choose you must have the ability to grow its your choice to take it or leaf it . therefore i think it is needed in the game
z4ys Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 stick to you fanatsy. Make your own rules. Be a privateer. Be a navy officer. Be a rich trader etc... Its a sandbox game. Make your own ruleset be what you want. I really enjoy the freedom we have now. 1

What I didn't see is exclusive career while losing access to functions that are not from that career. For example being a Trader mogul and still being able to command navy ships !?... Or actually take advantage of the sandbox and draw lines in the sand and make your own path and fun We can't have it all. 2

Well the issue with that time is that :", mostly the "captain" of the ship, was the mogul trader, instead of the naval captain, thats where the proverb comes from ;3 captains on a ship always gives trouble" so the problem can be "how good are they individually presented in the game" back to the topic> My career comes from the possibility to do for example trading ,but i need the ports to do it;, greater ships means more different goods, so more different buildings in different ports . Ranks can give me the ability to have more ports, and therefore my career grows. thats why, i asked more ranks and ports and men. ps.when beeing a rear admiral and sailing a bassic cutter, i staill can be defeated by a simple captain.so that wont change
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Maybe I'm looking at it from a incorrect perspective. Sorry But when I read Career I really mean it. As a Navy officer you'll be tied to rules for that career, which means you ain't going to be ruling over a trading empire and you shall be appointed ships, not buy them. Same way as a Trader overlord you shall not have access to Navy resources, including naval bases but have access to economic building and have a private shipyard which may or may not supply a Navy with ships and/or essential resources. I have the feeling I am not seeing it as you envision it... :\ ... which is inflation of all that is good without any exclusion effect and without making choices matter. But yeah, it is a suggestion that may see the light.
VonBarb Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 This type of career where you get the perks without the restrictions would make sense if you could play as your officers. The current 'characters' would become families or dynasties in which one son joined the navy, the other became a merchant etc... That would mean an in-depth rethinking of the character system and how we envision it. We could get a last name and be able to create a given number of 'brothers' or 'sons' each with their own name and a different career path to choose. 1

From my research on both PvP servers, nearly 80% of the ppl I see on the forum complaining about fleets seem to use them, themselves. According to VOC (Dutch) and DEIC (England) papers found online, it seems that they certainly did have their own merchant marine fleets to protect their own traders. The VOC was the Dutch nation's trader protector. Rarely did the Dutch navy get involved, unless it was to remove blockades. However, the DEIC was more often protected by a British Merchant Navy that basically was pressganged into the Royal Navy at times of war. So basically, the VOC had their own warships, and the DEIC hired the BMN. Unless I have failed to understand my readings. heh 1
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Indeed, the India Companies, especially in England did force lobby the Navy Board into diverting resources Still didn't help against bankruptcy and all those attacks from the French corsairs along the east african coast ( which was exactly what gave way to the EIC lobbying with the navy )

True indeed, but the only person who can stop a fight when resources are unlimited on both sides is the one who stops their own actions. For instance, if you and I were about to brawl, the two ways it can be stopped is by one of us killing each other, or (if we were invincible and couldn't die (unlimited resources)) one of us chooses to stand down. It's the old adage "two wrongs don't make a right", but ppl seem to live by "I'll stop if you stop first."
Jean Ribault Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I would think that becoming a trade Mogul in this game would enhance the opportunities. We already have the ships, and if the economy were fixed properly it would be viable to implement. Probably would have to be a distinct career path choice though, and not have access to fleets with warships as stated above. Don't need them anyway as a trader, our current in-game trader ships are already adequately equipped for some level of protection against privateering. Please stop it with the trolling #nofleet garbage and add something to the discussion. If the idea being offered here is ultimately to have a trade mogul career path choice, then you can't do that without being able to build a fleet of traders. That trolling response only applies to naval warfare captains, not to the trader career path. I would think that this only provides opportunity anyway for everyone playing the game. If you come across a trade fleet loaded with goods, how can that not be a good thing for every privateer-type player in this game? Loads of opportunity there, and more loot floating around in the OW. 2
