A 90 gun vessel of the early 1800. 36/18/12/6pd cannons. The first true 2nd rate we will have ingame. This beauty will be coming soon, and I can't say how happy I'll be to have a real 2nd rate around. A proper three decker. Beyond that, I can't say with any surety. 1
Mass Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Oh my lord thats the ship ive been waiting 2 years for !

I'm going to ask a stupid question here, but is the wasa the 17th century ship? Isn't that like, seriously out of the timeline?
fransgelden Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Are we going to get a trader ship? Like the New Amsterdam or something similar? 1
The Spud Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Just now, rediii said: Don't ask me, question and answer is from the Q&A of the devs Allright thanks, was just googeling it and it just felt like a weird ship to have in the game. Guess we'll just find out. 1
BungeeLemming Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Altho I cannot tell you if the devs take this exact model for reference I provided them with it when I turned my model in to them: https://digitaltmuseum.se/search/?context=photograph&aq=text%3A"kronprins"%2C"gustav" The Wasa is an open secret anyways. I quote what I wrote somewhere else: Quote To give you an overview I summarize her dimensions, armament and crew compliment: length (over all) : 49,3m beam: 13,59m max Draught (full load): 5,79m height of gundeck above the water: 2,18m tonnage: 2000 (no idea what meassurement was used here!) total cost: 78 000 riksdaler time until slipping*: 51 – 145 days total guns: 62 crew compliment: 564 men, total(->7 oficers; 2 officer cadets; 33 petty officers; 522 other ranks) *time until slipping: the time needed from laying down the keel until the ship is slipped into the water. After beeing slipped the carpenters will have to complete the planking above the waterline and building the intereur of the vessels as well as the rigging. The initial armament consisted of 26 x 24pd guns, 26 x 18pd guns and 8 x 6pd guns. The navy later upgunned many ships (not all because of the lack of ressources) to a 26 x 36pd, 26 x 24pd, 8 x 6pd armament. Note that the plans show 5 gunports on the quarterdecks whereas all records talk about 8 guns on the QD. Not sure how the game will handle that. Also these vessels feature two dedicated 6pd chase guns on the forecastle. Also note that the swedish artillery pound was lesser than others. (mainly to prevent the russians to use the swedish guns) Given these figures in here are correct her armament correlated to: 36pd(swe) = 33,75pd(brit) -- 24pd(swe) = 22,49pd(brit) -- 6pd(swe) = 5,6pd(brit) Ingame that could translate into 32 / 24 / 6 [pd] She is Chapmans greatest victory over traditional shipbuilding. This vessel was designed in competition against another shipbuilder and the Wasa was found to be superior in many ways. higher gunports, very good saiing and maneuvering. And Chapman build crew friendly ships. In term of space that is. https://digitaltmuseum.se/011014856402/b1554-1-2/media?i=44&aq=text%3A"kronprins"%2C"gustav" https://digitaltmuseum.se/011014889192/mm02664/media?i=30&aq=text%3A"kronprins"%2C"gustav" https://digitaltmuseum.se/011014888876/mm03532/media?aq=text%3A"kronprins"%2C"gustav"&i=31 note the special carriage design: https://digitaltmuseum.se/011014888813/mm03529/media?i=2&aq=text%3A"kronprins"%2C"gustav" that was also used for the 36 pounders. Its not limited to the 6pd chasers 1
The Spud Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) Allright, cheers for the info guys. Kinda happy its not the 17th century wasa. Edited February 10, 2017 by The Spud

Teutonic Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I have personally been anticipating the Wasa for a long time now. I eagerly await it's arrival into the game!

I blame it all on the dutch person which were the head of construction. The Wasa is a very pretty ship, so it Christian VII

SteelSandwich Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 4 minutes ago, DeRuyter said: Which shows the sad state of fireship mechanics in the game. ^ I would've loved to see the designated ship module being reworked to represent a 17th century fireship. Meaning you would ahve to 'prep' the fire, similar to the current boarding prep. As soon as your prep reaches 80-90 or so, your ship starts to burn. Besides this, it should allow your to bump, sail next to, or similar to boarding grapple the enemy when he is slow enough. Fires do sail damage, spread easily, we have the mechanical basics that are needed for such a rework, which would make fireships more enjoyable imo. (Also means that big ships once of ire can toggle survival on/off, but once turned off you can never turn it back on and your crew starts to abandon ship, meaning handling would get much harder pretty fast.) 3
DeRuyter Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 @SteelSandwich Fireships were also mostly smaller vessels like brigs and snows with all guns removed as part of the fire ship prep. 1

Interestingly enough, the Dutch on multiple occasions removed the guns, but replaced them with painted wooded replica's. Effectively making them indistinguishable for the rest. 2
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 That same ruse was used by ... all "sea cultures and nations". From traders ( with one quarter only with real guns, after all carriages take too much real estate), to fire ships, to rovers trying to look menacing.
