I'm new to the game, and one thing I've noticed is the lack of labels for landscape features, i.e.; rivers, streams, hills, houses, bridges, fords, towns, woods, roads, etc.  I think it would it would be a really interesting feature of the game and add a bit of reality to the battles.  For example, on the Bull Run map, it would be nice to label things like the Warrenton Pike, Stone Bridge, Lewis Ford, Matthews Hill, Bald Hill, Dogan Ridge, Manassas-Sudley Road, Van Pelt Farm, Sudley Springs, Chinn's Branch, etc.

I feel like labeling the features gives me a better understanding of the map and my battle plan.

Maybe the names of these features to be revealed when either: 1) the mouse hovers over a feature, or 2) it was an option to turn on/off.

I'm I the only one interested in this? It sounds like something the developers could add relatively easily.

+1 Sounds like a good feature for final release. I like the mouse hover idea instead of always having the text on the map.

I agree! It would add some immersion for those interested and wouldn't detract from those who are not.

The map is labeled on UGG but with the hand drawn maps of UGCW it would be difficult to implement.

This is not entirely correct. They are hand drawn in both games.

It is the 3D nature of the maps in UGCW that makes the overlays difficult to implement :).

Tend to think the labeling would be much better implemented if there were a strategic map, ala Company of Heroes' tactical map that would get you a good overview without having to scan around for everything.

Obviously, would be out of scope for initial release because this would delay things way too long, but something to think about.latest?cb=20130624182321&path-prefix=en

Difficult, but not impossible?

I also would like this idea a lot as the maps are all fantastic and I think it would help highlight lots of the detail that goes into making these maps. Also I do not know the civil war battles as well as most and getting to learn about the places as I play is really exciting.

One complication is the fact that portions of the map are recycled for different battles.  Look at Gaines Mill around the river east of where the Confederates come in, and look at the River Crossing scenario, forex.
