Ghroznak Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I was just watching it today and I noticed they had some different ships in the movie... or maybe the same one just shown from different angles and repainted slightly. Google searching for it came up with nothing. Just loads of websites regarding the Amistad trial, the outcome, the effect on the american Civil War and so on... I thought one of the ships, the survey ship that first found the Amistad after the slaves, looked quite a bit like the Constitution (though maybe smaller perhaps). Really curious which "real life" ship was used in the movie... so... does anyone know??
Sir Texas Sir Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) While not sure if they used any actual ships in the movie or if they where just mock ups, but these are the ships that was involved in the events in history. Tecora - a brig that was a slave trader (what brought them from africa). La Amistab - A two masted 19th Century Schooner. Later was named Ion under a US captain and than sold to french. USRC Washington - A Morris-Taney class Cutter that found them of the United States Revenue Cutter Service (they later became the coast guard) Edited January 12, 2017 by Sir Texas Sir
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 It is a almost exact replica of the original. There were no mock-ups Actually the ship is under UNESCO patronage. http://www.amistadcommitteeinc.org/
Ghroznak Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 I added some images from the movie. http://imgur.com/a/elnbm There are some images of the Amistad itself (as shown in the movie), a couple of the Washington that seized Amistad when it came to the US waters and one image of a random ship in background as well. They all seem like 'legit' ships though, aka not mockups or anything.

Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Oh yes, thanks for that. From some deep search and taking on some diary of the production set it seems they used the Pride of Baltimore II to "enbody" the L'Amistad http://www.webghosts.com/amistad/index.htm
