Campaign Side Engagements

Question, I know you can fight the side engagements before a major battle in any order you want, but is there an effect on anything by playing them out of historical order? 

BTW, designers; the side engagements are usually more fun than the big battles. The big battles make the game, don't get me wrong, but you've put together a nice set of challenges to keep me interested for a long time.

Fully agree, fact is that big battles feels much better to me in his historical play-it-alone format.
