Ship Paints

Now that we have ship paints, maybe we could get "paint schemes" for our sails.

I rather have clan flags. Although again another thing that can wait till after release much like the ship paints themselves which felt like they jumped the gun a bit.

There are SO many more important things that I'd rather the dev team devote its time to than this (Getting the game to a point where it actually releasing is a tenable and realistic goal, for instance).

I agree. Of all the things we needed, ship paints werent at the top. While i do imagine it was fairly easy to add them to the game, it could have waited.

I hope they don't add paint to any of the sails of the sqaure rigged ships. Staying true to how the ships looked historically is a big bonus for me as a history buff, and if I started to see alot of disney flavored black sails on every other ship a huge part of immersion would be lost for me. However having a bit more to choose from in regards to how the hull is painted is something I would like to see. But for me its a no to any coloured sails, with the exception to smaller gaffed-rigged ships which sometimes had barked coloured sails. 

 For me is the possibility to customize the hull and not the sail a good compromise between the crowed that want customization and the ones that like the historical immersion and feel of being in an old maritme painting.

I always hated the colored/patterned sails in POTBs, totally immersion breaking-particularly with how gaudy they got. Customizable flags (flown in addition to national colors or as pirate flags) would be neat and allow the same level of personalization without being immersion breaking. That being said, just hull paint is plenty of customization for me personally

I agree. I'm all for more customization of the hull colours (a la PotBS, but perhaps without the ability to paint my ship neon pink) and custom flags and pennants, but designs on sails just doesn't fit.

The only time we really used it on POTBS to set teams in port battles.  You would have RED, BLUE and GREEN teams.  I'm not even sure the other nation ever figured out what each mean.  RED/BLUE was the main force and I was in charge of green team.  The Priavateers and skirmishers (lower level guys)....that weren't in the big rated ships, but I kinda agreee but I kinda don't.

I want clan flags for sure, but would be nice to have some sail patterns or slight color changes cause every dang ship looks to much like each other in battles.

I see the usefulness of it in that  context! Like different squadrons within the fleet with distinct roles in battle. But surely much the same thing could be accomplished with color-coded flags and/or paint schemes?

I think rather than sails though flags would be more in order as long as a national flag was still in evidence somewhere on the ship.... probably leave the main flag as the national flag.
