Minimum troops for each level

Is there some way to figure out the minimum army size I need for each level (lower limit of scaling). I think this would really be useful.

For doing it on the fly, take Recon 2 so you get the scouting report. Keep bouncing back and forth between the camp screen and the battle as you start increasing your forces. Once the enemy's forces start increasing, you've found it.
