Difficulty Moving Units

So I've been enjoying this game immensely for the past few weeks playing the Confederate Campaign (Thank you Devs!), but I've been frustrated by how difficult it is to move units.

I like using the left click drag option to move so that i can control exactly the path that my units take. Aesthetically it also give the best "Yeah, I'm the general" feeling. However, many times that I try to drag a unit to move, I activate the multi unit select tool instead. I have tried experimenting with where on the unit I drag from (men, flag etc..), but I have not yet figured out how to consistently drag move a unit from the first mouse click. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Right clicking gives you a more precise arrow and holding right click allows you to adjust the end destination.

I noticed it's a pain to click and rag some units too.
