Daniel_Boon Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Will we have to pay for ships, Because in the pre order menu it says the Yacht is a $20 value and that leads me to believe that we will either have to grind for weeks to get the points to get a new ship, or we can pay 20 bucks and get it right away. just curious.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I'm assuming that most ships will be purchased via in-game currency. There may be special ships that can be bought with real world cash though.
Mirones Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 at the moment you just select the ship and go into battle nothing more.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I thought no it was more of an economy/open world question Mirones. Have there been any official statements on the subject I've missed?
Mirones Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 then i would have gave you the information in the first place
Dagann Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Good question and remark. We really don't know, many thing are blurry about the game. It seems Star Citizen is one of the NA inspiration. Since in SC you will be able to buy ships with game currency or real money, since NA is neither a F2P nor a game based on a monthly subscription and since Game labs needs regular income to go on with the NA developement for years, i'm thinking we could indeed buy ships with real money or ingame currency.
Hawke Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I certainly hope not, or if you can buy ships with real money it's heavily restricted. If one is able to buy a 1st rate or a Constitution it would be heavily unfair to us poor scrubs that are working our way up through the brigs and smaller frigates.
Mirones Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 why allways the ,,highend,, get meshioned we dont know wo the future looks like and small ships with 18-24guns would be the most likely thing. again we need to have the next build to base our feedback on evrything else is just speculation, where on reads something into it wich is not true and starts a shitstorm because of this missinformation.
Daniel_Boon Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 So we will be able to start with the first ship (unless we pre ordered)? and we will have to earn the money through trading and pillaging and such?

Maybe Accuracy boosts or loot bonuses with real money or cool skins for your ship, but not the ship itslef.
Daniel_Boon Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 or perhaps, i just thought of this, you could purchase all the way up to the frigate or heavy corvette and then you had to earn the money to buy anything better then that.
Mirones Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 i'm not answering this since there is no information on these things
Edward Vernon Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I cannot say I have seen any suggestion that real money will be able to be used to purchase ships in game. My interpretation of the Pre-Order is that you are placing faith in the game by pre-ordering a digital download copy of the game when it is released. Oh....and as an added bonus you get a Royal Yacht (with nominal cash value), invite to Sea Trials ( and have some influence on the development of the game further) and Early Access. All for the princely sum of $40. Seems like a bargain to me. I don't get the Star Citizen analogy at all (oh and I am a multi-hundred dollar backer of SC btw) and cannot say I have seen any suggestion or hint that the devs are intending that kind of model of game. They only discussions really about microtransactions have been quite clearly about possibly being able to purchase in game "vanity" items such as a custom paint job for your ship, different coloured sails etc, certainly nothing that would or could possibly buff or enhance your gameplay. Apart from anything else, noobs with wads of cash would soon find out the hard way that a good ship does not guarantee progression. I expect that most important in this game for your progression and success will be through learning, training, trial and error. I would pretty much guarantee that a good experienced player would be able to defeat a raw noob in a ship considerably larger in a 1 on 1 fight. 5
Mirones Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 can a mod move this into the topic like ship replacement since it is wrong placed in this subforum

I agree, i originally asked this becuase i was worried this would just be another game that was ruined by micro transactions.
Thomas Blackwell Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Currently the only vessel that is obtainable through the payment of real money is the Royal Yacht. As far as I know, it is meant for those who purchase the game in it's earliest stages and will remain unique in Naval Action. Admin will probably announce how micro-transactions in Naval Action will work when they get to them. For now however, testers can use any and all ships in battle, though this is likely to change before release.
admin Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 There will be a set of beautiful or famous premium ships in game The rest of vessels will be obtainable in game from admiralty, trading companies or other players 1
Thundershield Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 There will be a set of beautiful or famous premium ships in game The rest of vessels will be obtainable in game from admiralty, trading companies or other players I like that model. So long as the ships available for purchase with real money don't have unfair advantages over other ships that can be obtained in game, I'm all for that. 4
KillBox Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I like that model. So long as the ships available for purchase with real money don't have unfair advantages over other ships that can be obtained in game, I'm all for that. If anything, it should be the opposite - it'd be a nice way to bring in old 17th century galleons, old merchantmen etc. that are significantly weaker than more "modern" men-of-war of roughly equal size. Or keep premium vessels to pleasure-sailors like armed yachts, gulets, etc You know - the things we wish we could sail in real life simply for the sake of sailing them.
Bixol Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Will we, that have preordered the game, get only the armed yacht or does it also include other ships?

I may be a bit confused, but just to clarify; I'm all for making Premium ships a mostly a cosmetic addition. As In you can't buy a 150 gun super ship, but merely some ships with historical value, or ships that look pretty, but can never outperform ships that are freely available for non Premium players. So if that's what you're saying, I agree. Premium ship deals would be an ideal way to get those more unique ship types in the game. Will we, that have preordered the game, get only the armed yacht or does it also include other ships? You can find all that info here: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/1539-pre-orders-open-for-naval-action/ To save you time: Price is 39.99 US dollars. It includes the premium yacht and several unannounced bonuses. Price will go up as we add more content. But early buyers will not have to pay more. "Unannounced bonuses" may or may not be another ship, but I wouldn't get my hopes up, lest we be disappointed. I imagine it could be paint schemes or some such.

It would also solve the obvious problem with how 17th century hulls would be competitive with 19th century ones - the answer, of course, is that they aren't. They're premium flavour. Instead of a sleek Dutch Merchantman (available in game to all players), you could opt to sail a beautifully ornate Spanish Treasure Galleon in stead, and making the appropriate trade-offs for that choice. And if that's going too far our of balance, you could always restrict Premium vessels to armed pleasure boats/ships in stead. There are (and should be) plenty of ways to support the Devs without going the way of WarGaming, Gaijin or other "Freemium" titles.
Mageprince Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Can't we just at least wait for alpha before we bring up the obligatory monetization discussion lol
