I have been playing for a couple of months now. so just before the new port battle and hostility system was introduced. I have been thinking a little bit and i have an idea for creating port battles. it looks a bit like the flag system but different. let's say a nation wants to make a port battle, they have to take an item to the enemy port. But instead of creating a port battle it sends a message to the enemy telling them that nation x wants to contest that port. a timer will start for any amount of time and after a while (let's say 1 hour) a sort of mini PB is created. the idea is that to invade a port the infrastructure and defending fleet has to be destroyed.

After the timer has ended a battle instance will open where the objective is to destroy the towers and a certain part of the defending fleet. if the defenders do not show up, a certain ammount of NPC ships will spawn, sizes of ships and structures depend on the size of the port. (preferrable the structures that are already on the coast). If a defending player wants takes part in the battle the NPC will be replaced with a player. this is only possible in the first 5 minutes before the battle. so in fact it's the old port battle system but instead of fighting for the port you are fighting for a timer.

So, some advantages will be that you don't have to endlessly grind NPC's to get the PB, mortar brigs will be useful outside of PB's, it's an incentive for PVPĀ and players actually have to show some effort into making a PB. It would be fun for both sides and still give the defender the ability to deny the PB if they really want to.

some disadvantages are that you have the ability to spam timers to confuse the enemy. You can prevent this by making it so that there is only the possibility of one timer at a time. this might be what the devs have in mind for raids but i don't know enough about that to make a statement.

so, what do you think?
