Over here the navy guys say that the marines are part of the navy to which we reply, yes it is, the best part. Back in the old days I think that marines could shoot, foremost, then hand reef and steer. That probably went out when steam came in. The Marine Corps now is mostly a fighting force. We still do security in the big ships but, as far as I know, we don't do anything else tied to the running of the ship. Still, a lot of our gear is launched from navy ships so even though we tease them a little, we still like our slimy squids.

 

Now SEALS, they are awesome.

 

I am kind of out of touch on most things Marine Corps these days. There aren't a lot of Marines out here on the prairie. I try to keep read up though. Oldnavy, since our Marine Corps is modeled after the Royal Marines, please share any tid-bits ya can.

 

Oh, sorry my typing was so atrocious in the last few posts.

Pyrate, Thanks for the post. I worked a lot of years with an old Coastie. It is an honor knowing him. A friend's son served in the CG. He once worked for me. I love Coasties.
