Macjimm Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Wonder if it might be possible to remove the autokick feature from the game. It was added a little while ago when there were 3 PvP servers and they were all very full with thousands of people wanting to play. Currently there are only 2 PvP servers and the last three times I've played there were only a couple hundred players on both of them. I actually enjoy sailing and am busy navigating and keeping a log. When I get the message "You will be disconnected from the servers in a few minutes due to inactivity" I click on the screen. But sometimes I may be away at the instant and miss the little ships bell. It is disappointing to return and see that I have been disconnected. I usually don't reconnect and find I want to play less, considering the thought of getting booted out of game. There really is no point to kick us off of the servers anymore because there is hardly anyone there. How about a compromise. If we don't remove the autokick, then extend the time limit to a several hours rather than 15 minutes (or 20 minutes). We could always reinstate the fast kick when we have thousands of players again.
JollyRoger1516 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I usually don't mind this but for trading or long range relocating it is rather annoying. Would be nice to see that being on the open world with some kind of movement disables it. Bit annoying to be on a 2 hour sail and having to throw in a crazy ivan every 30mins.

All you have to be is in the screen. I watch tv, post on the forums, mess around on other game forums and chat on TS all the time while doing things like this and I hardly ever get the idle time out. Maybe you need to stop walking away from you computer. Hell I have played other games while I was doing a long sail and never got the idle out message. How hard is it to check into a window every 15 mins?
JollyRoger1516 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 If I am on a 2 hour trip I could go to the shop if this autokick wouldn't ruin it. There won't be any excitement during that trip especially not on a basic cutter and when I am in front of my computer I don't want to play other games or watch the ocean for 2 hours. While I acknowledge the travel time as necessary I don't see why we are forced to watch it.

How hard is it to check into a window every 15 mins? I suppose you are right. I have NA up on one monitor and am working on the map and spreadsheet on another. I will get a little ships bell and large text splash on the NA screen at about 20 min. (The text splash will disappear after 1 min.) At 25 min later there is another little ships bell and the text splash. At 29 min another bell and splash. At 30 min ..Disconnect. One needs to alt tab in or mouse touch the screen to stop the process. Simply having the screen up will not stop the processes, but touching the NA screen every 15 minutes will. If I am away from my desk for a moment and do not hear the little bell I may miss the opportunity to mouse click on the NA screen. It is very easy to do. I'm sure most of us agree that 30 minutes can zip by in an instant when we are engrossed with another task. It's reasonable to get up from the desk periodically. I don't often miss all three of the bells but it happens occasionally. I fail to understand why we need to kick people off when there is never a full server anymore. It is 1630z right now and there is 350 players on PvP1 57 people in PvP2. The last time I was on, there was less that 200 players in all the servers combined. Perhaps if a player was motionless it would be a little easier to understand, but even then with so few players what does it hurt? What does it matter if players are in game on a long distance sail for hours and hours without touching the screen. Seems we have retained a feature to address a problem that does not exist anymore. 1
Sir Texas Sir Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 The timer was put there back when there was way to many folks on the game and there was a que to actually log into the PvP1 server. That was also the reason for the split back than. That and it's in there cause folks will AFK fish for bottles and well fish too. They just leave there game on in a safe spot and fish. I don't really have an issue with it and I love when folks like Jolly AFK sail and walk away from there computer. You be surprised how many traders I have caught doing this. Even caught traders sitting AFK in the middle of no where fishing. This prob isn't done as much as it use to be cause they have changed so many game mechanics since those days. Remember that we are in testing for a live version. That day when the game does go live and maybe the population goes back up we will need these features. There is no reason to remove a feature just cause the testers numbers are currently down. By your mind set they might as well merge the servers cause there is no reason to have three servers with such low pop.

Or reduce the time limit back to 30 minutes. Nothing in the mind set supports merging the servers. Merging the servers is not a solution to the fast auto kick and is off topic. Merging may push players onto a single server but you will have less overall players*. If you force all the players on PvP1, PvP2 & PvE1 (total 200- 500) into one server you may end up with 150-400 players on a single server. The same situation remains where players will still be kicked for inactivity on a partially full server for no reason. Instead of the situation on three servers you have the same conditions on one. * player will quit playing if you take away their choice.

You are saying to change something cause the player base numbers don't support it. That is the same thing as folks saying we should merge the servers. Since we are low pop we should not change game functions just to match the low population while testing. So the AFK kick should stay the same no matter if we have 100 players or 10000000000 players. If the mind set that we have less players it needs to be changed would be the same well we don't have 1000 players any more so we don't need three servers we only need one to support the 100 players. See what I'm saying here? Leave the features as is. Numbers will go up and down as we test and no need to add extra code changes and tweeks that don't really need to be put in there cause folks are to lazy to atl tab and keep there game a live or stay at there computer. I'm sorry if your not at your computer than you don't need to be in the game. Many other games have pretty much the same timer kicks so it's nothing new.
