VEYRON Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 watching some vedios i noticed that many players fire a 1st shot or 2 just before unloading a full broadside,,scince not many want to narrate thier vedios, not sure what thier doing,,but it did bring me a question..can we have full control of what guns is to be fired? becouse like jack aubry and lord nelson, never mind the manouvers,go straight at the enemy get in pistol shot and on the up roll fire,,now i wud like to hold back a few guns after i broadside the enemy then cut across his tail ,i need some guns to take out his rudder,,so, is it possible to have control of all guns and fire them individualy,or maybe have a weapons map of baterries of say 4 that i can map to keys and fire certain batterys for the broadside leaving me with with enough guns batterys to take out the enemy rudder, any way,,im certain this has been thought of,but thought i better address it while it was on my mind ,,so back to the vedios and you testers rock
Thundershield Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 The idea of firing each gun deck separately has been brought up before I think, so there's that. Regarding the videos you've seen where players fire 1 or 2 cannons before a broadside; That's mostly to check the aim of the cannons, to make sure they're on target. 1
Johny Reb Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 In the current test build there are no range indicators showing how far away other ships are from you. There used to be but no longer. Only experience and ranging shots allow you to find the range accurately so that you can adjust your guns accordingly. The individual shots you see in the video are the ranging shots. We get 5 of them per broadside. At this time you can not fire decks individually unless you have fired the full broadside and only the smaller guns have loaded. Then you can fire those guns seperately. The different sized guns load at different rates but if all decks are loaded then all decks will fire. I like your idea about mapping the keyboard to allow us individual control of the decks.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 If I'm going to rake the enemy's stern, I'm not going to do it with one or two guns held in reserve. I'll use a full set of guns. Shooting away the rudder, from the gameplay vids I've seen, is going to take more then a gun or two.
Saintduiex Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Some of my observations. First and foremost, this discussion differs dramatically depending upon the ships involved. Losing a rudder occurs much less often than losing a mast. As Triptyx noted, you aren't gonna get there with just a couple of guns. In the 200 or so battles I have been in, I have not see a Lynx, Cutter or the Surprise lose a rudder. Typically the Lynx and cutter get destroyed in a good broadside or two from a larger ship, or the Captain foolish enough to get caught too close to the bow of a moving ship will just get run over. While firing on the stern of an enemy ship when in close does crank up the damage given, unless you are in a cutter or Lynx, in many cases you will be too high to effectively hit the rudder. If you wait till the enemy is perfectly lined up with the center of your ship, the guns on either end tend to wiz past the enemy, with the middle guns hitting him. If I'm going for the bow or stern up close it is pretty hard to get there right after a broadside, other than the Lynx or Cutter these are not race cars and don't turn on a dime. While Lynx and cutter are very maneuverable, any rough weather greatly increased the difficulty in hitting your target. At point blank range I would not hold anything back as I may not get another opportunity to get that close. If going for the bow or stern I would line that up as my primary attack, not as a 2nd move following a broadside as the enemy captain is going to be making their own moves. And doing their own firing Just my observations

When you wwant to fire the whole broadside you press enter. at any Tim you can disable a deck on either side to fire later or individually.
