Jeheil Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 If we ever do look at content for pirates, beyond how many Forum Salt they can create (which is arguably not planned content) I would very much be able to hire a Pirate CLAN (important it is a clan) to raise hostility / lower hostility under my nations flag by x% in location Z. I would like to be able to put this up like a contract on a market and let Pirate Clan's bid on it. I would also like to hire pirates to kill x% of enemy BR in general too...again...accepted by a clan, from a bidding system. So in either case, Jeheil lodges on behalf of the British Nation a reward of 700,000 - 1,000,000 gold pieces for any clan that can deliver me 5,000 BR of Danish Shipping (4th rates and above) in the next 7 days. My Contract is valid for 3 days and goes to the lowest bidder, who will put down a 10% loseable deposit (to the game money sink monster) to take the contract. Please start the inevitable sub-conversation of bounties in a different thread. 2
Destraex Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I disagree, very rare in history to have a pirate fleet. Pirate mechanics should reflect this rather than massive mercenary armies gathering at ones borders. I would not want to encourage players to once again flock to the once again popularised pirate banner knowing that they can play on any side. They should simply put be against everybody and everybody should want to kill them. They should never operate in gigantic nation killing fleets. The game mechanics should discourage this. Trafalgar sized battles that only nations can and should be able to support realistically should not be accessible to what are essentially small time pirates. Daringly raiding under the noses of the large ponderous nations. In short pirates should be pirates, not nation killers!!!! Pirates should be something somebody who likes the life of a lone wolf who likes evading enemy patrols and raiding merchants should be. A pirate with his\her limited resources should never take on warships which offer little profit but a lot of misery. Any self respecting nation would not want to put gold in the hands of pirates. Even privateers were generally single ships built by private owners because they knew the government would pay them to do X against nation X.
Jeheil Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Well if we are going to be accurate..pfff we have to probably remove pirates as by 1830 they were all but extinct or settled as independent agents (bar Nassau), it was only the sponsorship of piracy as part of the Latin American Wars of Independence that led to widespread use of privateers both by Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and other newly independent Latin American countries. These privateers were hired under the letters of Marque (not that they stayed overly bound to them).
Johann von Brandenburg Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I would say lets just wait and see what will happen with Pirate Mechanics. aftet that we can talk about such stuff.
