What Nation(s) would you want to sail for and be aligned to?

I normally play Rule Britannia all the way, but need to see how the game handles 'nations' before making a decision. e.g. If as an example too many players go British, or French from the outset, the game will launch with a totally unbalanced realm vs realm strength.

 

I don't know if the game can allow a balanced system based on players by nation, but really hoping we won't be seeing a system where one Nation simply overwhelms others. Duel teaming in potbs for instance was one of the factors that ruined its realm vs realm and when the odds are too great this might be a temptation for those able to afford 2 accounts.

Well judging from the poll the majority will go British since they have double the amount of 2nd place votes.  We'll have to see how that translates to release but I expect much of the same. Too crowded for me.

Living pretty close to Venice, I hope I could join the Venetian Navy one day but I don't think Venice would be relesead in a reasonable amount of time. I like the Royal Navy, but half the people will choose it. So...alternative nation: the Netherlands! I always liked that country and probably I'll join the United Provinces Navy

I am admittedly torn between England and the U.S. England has the the résumé and the glitter of the pomp and circumstance that comes with serving in the Royal Navy to boast, but there's something about the underdog nature of the U.S. that I find intriguing.

 

However, whichever I choose, I intend to make my way on the high seas under my own flag. It's been a while since I've had a stroll around the forums, Is piracy still a hot topic these days?

The three flags I'd probably want to sail under the most, in order of priority, would be: USA - Britain - and France. USA because 'Murica! and I'm a 'Murican!! Britain because his majesty's Royal Navy is an awesome power of the time, and the discipline, organization, and dedication to duty is glorious. France because Bonaparte, while a mad man, should be respected as one of the great military leaders throughout history therefore I'd find it a privilege to sail under the french flag. That is of course with the viewpoint of, "if I was a Frenchman in this time period".

Anyway, Ramjb will probably try to press me into the Spanish Navy. Then there is a certain significant other who would cut 'my rum ration' should I not join France. Then there are the Scandinavian countries that have an odd charm. Oh and the Dutch - God knows they can't win a football final but by Jove were they fine sailors. And then there is the idea of a Scotsman in the British Navy...

yes... it will be interesting to see how they'll finally implement nations; and thus how it will be possible to sail for a german faction.

 

apart from germans i would love to play denmark, russia and of course france. but then again i think the actual nationalities won't matter that much once open world started. or will there be something like faction-bonuses, special/limited ships and or more or less pre-defined diplomatic relations?
