Lord Heyford Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Have the devs or land designers ever seen or been to Florida or any of islands in the Caribbean? The tallest mountain in Florida is Splash Mountain at Disney World. Florida, is at best, flat. So is Key west and all those keys. Have you seen the Bahamas? Not very mountainous. Can one of the patches address this? Also, I'm pretty sure that if a cruise ship and other vessels can tsail in the Andros area, I'm pretty sure Frigates and Indiamen can. Also, in the case of shallow ports, the old ships would anchor out and use cutters and other small boats to move cargo. Maybe you could fix that in a future patch.
LeBoiteux Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Here is an opposite example, that of La Martinique where one can find hills and a mountain (Mount Pelée, a volcano, 1395 m) and flat terrain :
SteelSandwich Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 The dutch archives have loads of side views of island in the caribbean. If interested, i will post some.

GrapeShot Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Perhaps you could post a picture of the volcano at Key West?

Most historical refs exaggerated heights and shapes and we used some of the harbor reports for ideas. The map and heights look like it would be drawn by an 18th century cartographer - not by google. + erosion maybe.
akd Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 It definitely had the effect of making all areas more dramatic, but sadly undermined the unique character of certain areas. Another benefit is that land more properly blocks vision relative to the reduced scale land allowing for more tactical use of land on the OS (you cannot, for example, easily spot ships sailing on the far side of Nassau island.)

Depth chart of the area. http://wittenmyer.net/sail/fl_str.gif You can see even right north of Cuba its only 30 feet deep. North of Grand there are areas that are 6 feet or less. Andros has areas 6 to 12 feet. Edited November 2, 2016 by Daguse
