Darayavahus Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 New Upgrade: Wide Cannon Ports Wider angle of cannon targeting in side ports: improved by 2-10 degrees Higher chance of cannons being destroyed: 1-5% Higher flexibility for ships that do not have stern/bow chasers - wider ports allow cannons to be placed on higher angle to hull, at the cost of possibilty to lose cannons as they are more exposed due to wider cannon ports. 2
Pagan Pete Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Do we have a historical precedence? If so, Pagan Pete will support this.
Guest Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 dafuq Just wondering how silly ships would look like with wider gunports. Please. No.
maturin Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 The traverse limits are already at the historical maximum, IIRC. Many ships would have had narrower fire arcs, especially for carronades.
Kiithnaras Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Definitely a no on this one. The one exception would be a modification to the existing Gunboat - that rear carronade really should be able to traverse around a lot further...but then again, it isn't in a gun port (it's literally on a rotating carriage).

Could be an option on other ships as well. Privateers like Lynx often carried a long gun on a swiveling carriage, and HMS Shannon employed a light gun like this for targeting the enemy's wheel.
