kwgirishace Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Wanted to say thank you for this great game had it a while even though its died down a little in terms of server popularity I think it is mainly its still early access think the population will pick back up when the game is fully out. Just wanted to ask though is there any way for the current players help to monetize the game in any way maybe buying cosmetics or something I don't know just feel bad that it is a once time pay mmo and want more content even though already delivered on what was promise. BTW something please do developers please add whaling fishing is fun but please add whaling and on controversy its fine any publicity is good publicity also don't think anyone who bought the game or will cares about the whole whaling. I mean common we have sex drugs hunting animals all different types of controversy so please add whaling. Hey if you don't like whaling you could be a pirate and seize a whaling ship also make it worth a lot of money. 1
Haratik Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Could you possibly break this down so it's legible please? I think I got lost after the first run on sentence.
Atreides Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) Something about buying makeup.... Sex drugs, rock-and-roll... Whaling and pirates! Just picture Steven Tyler as a pirate chasing Moby Dick Edited October 15, 2016 by Atreides 1
Bramborough Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I don't think it's make-or-break and shouldn't be a high priority...but I do think whaling could be a pretty cool addition. 1. Require a certain ship type, or at least perhaps whaling-specific upgrades. Enough "overhead" such that one must decide to make a dedicated whaling voyage, not just happening to drag up whales with whatever ship one is sailing. 2. Make whales relatively scarce (no more common than the current high-value fishes such as Bullshark), and only far out to sea. 3. "Whale Oil" could be a high-value product for NPC prices, up in the same range as Tobacco/Sugar/etc.
UberAegis Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I read somewhere that the devs said whaling would never be featured. This seems a shame as after briefly googling it seemed it was a major industry in the mid 1700 s. There could be a few reasons they don t want to include it. 1.The amount of coding required 2.Concern about negative publicity. To be honest I doubt this as some of the most popular games have had very negative publicity. I m against whaling but i d still whale in this game as it isn t real life and to me thats the whole point of a game, do what you want and no one gets hurt. 3. A personal decision in terms of the direction they want the game to go.

A personal decision in terms of the direction they want the game to go. I am not a developer or an official tester so I have no first hand knowledge into what the developers thoughts are regarding the issue of "whaling". My impression (or hunch) is that the developers do not wish to add whaling since (in real life and at this point in history) it is a controversial topic. There are many people and groups in real life opposed to whaling, and there remains the distinct possibility that by adding whaling into Naval Action, these people and/or groups may chose to shine a (negative) spotlight on the Naval Action game/developers for having whaling in their game. This could result in negative publicity for the game (and negative publicity could drive away potential players--bad for the developers finances). And by taking a chance on adding whaling they risk the possibility of watching this game that they have worked so long and hard for be destroyed. Were they to add it to the game, and it were to result in a public shitstorm for them having done so, then Admin (or someone else on the behalf of Admin/developers) would then have to spend a significant amount of their time in responding to and/or attempting to manage a PR response to it. (and this of course would take away time from them actually coding/finishing the development of this game). So the best way to avoid that possibility is simply not to add whaling to the game. Why add something to the game when there is such a risk of controversy? This same logic/reasoning would apply to the subject of slavery. Some players have called for that to be added into the game. Historically, it would be accurate. But there is such a level of controversy around the subject in real life, that by adding it into the game the developers would risk a public backlash. I have spent too many hours playing this game to wish to see it result in still birth (before its public release) because of something like whaling (or slavery) being added into the game.
Mrdoomed Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 I dont understand no whaling either. At least not because it's politically incorrect. Since we have murder, death, killing fish , grinding them into meat , tobacco etc i cant see whaling being off limits. It has to be a cultural thing , it just has to be because with it you could add oil, fireship crafting, better lighting for night combat but more visibility and on and on. Plus like someone else said i would like to kill evil whalers!
maturin Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Whaling isn't controversial or politically incorrect, FFS. Did no one notice how we just had a major Hollywood blockbuster about whaling? There's no whaling in this game because it would require a huge feature suite that has nothing to do with naval combat. Maybe the devs used controversy as an excuse because some people can't take 'it's an enormous off-topic pain in the ass' as an answer for why it won't be developed. 1

Man your ignorance shows no limits lol. Whaling is both controversial and Politically Incorrect. Im not going into the hour long book i could write about it because everyone in the forum knows you ignore truth and reason to tout your own rationality. And will you PLEASE stop speaking for the development team like you know whats going on. UberAegis Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Absolutely understand why slavery is off the table.Although most people would understand it s in a game I ve played enough on xbox and ps4 to understand that there are people out there who don t understand the difference. The sad thing is that most of the people who kick up in the media don t play games. I ve put a few hours into this game and still haven't been tempted to head to the coast and begin robbing cargo ships????.I still know what is right and what is wrong in real life.
