Angus McGregor Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 While tooting around the PvE OW in my fully laden merchant ship, it struck me as very odd and a bit sad that I had absolutely no fear of the ships around me. Yes, PvE automatically means I have no reason to fear other players (not that I encounter many in PvE OW). But all these NPC ships are surely part of the 'E' in PvE. My suggestion is... An infrequent chance of merchant ships (even in a fleet) being targeted by an NPC pirate ship/fleet. Traders would need to be wary of any ship on an intercept course in OW. Ships of any nation may be pirates flying false colors. And of course the matches would need to be balanced to give the player a fighting chance. Warships or fleets without traders need not worry. Pirates are greedy, not stupid. The PvE server is a nice sandbox to play in, but actually a bit bland. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want my merchant ships to be jumped every time they left port. But just the chance that this Pickle overtaking me is up to no good would bring a little bit of excitement that is currently missing. 3
Rychu Karas Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It works as intended Its only your chose to do nothing on pve server. deal with never ending NOTHING. hf gf ect...
Bubba Smith Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It works as intended Its only your chose to do nothing on pve server. deal with never ending NOTHING. hf gf ect... I think you completely missed his point. Random attacks is much different than the intensity and frequencey of attacks possible on PvP.
SheepDip Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Switch to PvP , we will gank you 24/7. I think your making his point for him .....

Until bots are taught to chase effectively this will be just a time waster both for the trader and for the bot. Bot will attack you and just waste your battle timer and exit timer. You will escape in 100% of cases Even if bots receive a significant buff to speed they will still struggle in chases.

Even if bots receive a significant buff to speed they will still struggle in chases. I was about to say that they cause me grief in the Admiralty missions, especially if I choose the level equal to my rank. But then I'm not usually trying to flee so that's not the point you were making. Still - please keep it in mind. Edited October 4, 2016 by Steadfast
Baron Von WeisenCracker Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 at a time we use to have it to where npcs would attack you pre steam release i wasent sure why they took it out but id love to see it in some way added back yep .. When I first got the game... that is what I saw (back in March) ... it was not all "player initiated only" battles - as it is now. There used to be 1) "stationed" ships outside the ports -- that would initiate battle if you "got too close". 2) Had AI ships attempt to take you into battle if they were over-taking you on your heading. 3) A lot more traders were escorted by warships, than they are now. - Heaviest I see now is a Traders brig or Traders Snow escorted by a single Brig or Navy Brig But there is a very BROAD line/area between sailing endlessly without fear of battle, and the constant Gank-fest on PVP servers. Which could allow for some significant challenges, for the less PVP inclined encounters. Cheers, -Yank/BvW

Bot will attack you and just waste your battle timer and exit timer. You will escape in 100% of cases But, even if bots aren't taught to chase effectively, making them aggressive would give PvEers in warships another way to enter instances than tagging, and thus would make OW in PvE server a bit more "realistic" (by being tagged, even if you could escape in 100% of cases). Any chance bots are taught to chase someday ?
