Abigail Scott Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 I played Naval Action for about three hours yesterday. Regrettably, I could not log in today because I kept getting a message that Steam would not authenticate me. Interesting, since all I did was logout of the game last night and go to bed, I didn't even shut down my PC. After several hours trying to rectify the situation, I've sent a ticket to Steam support requesting a refund. Naval Action has some nice potential -- terrific graphics and an interesting fighting mechanic. I wish I could have tried the trading and crafting aspect, as those are things that interest me most in MMOs. Naval Action is an awful lot like an existing game, Pirates of the Burning Sea (PotBS), except PotBS has a land warfare component. PotBS is older and the land component of the game is clunky, but that game's overall mechanics are suspiciously similar to Naval Action. One last comment: I'm really tired of smart asses who think they've got to deride PvE players. I suffer from a neuromuscular disease that makes the demands of PvP situations an impossibility. It's not that I don't enjoy the rough and tumble -- ten years ago I was a killer, but no more. Reading the snarky remarks about PvE players on this forum was just another reason I didn't struggle too hard to work out my technical issues. Enjoy the game. 2
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 So, Steam's API doesn't work (this is common), which has nothing to do with Naval Action, and you're going to refund Naval Action because steam can't keep their login service stable and running? Interesting. I'm sorry you had a bad first experience. If there's anything we can do to help, please let us know. It does, however, take far longer than an hour or two to begin to see and understand the level of complexity that is in this game. PotBS this is not. 4
b.westall Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 thanks for the update I thought it was me or my computer
Kair Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 In each and every multiplayer community, you'll get people that depreciate other people and the way they want to play the game. Game needs to be full PVP for some, be full PVE for others, be hardcore, casual etc etc... I usually like it when games have all aspects at once, that way I always feel like I'm getting what I need when I need it (If I have a lot of free time to play, I can go hardcore for a time, If i have a lot of work, I switch to the more "casual" part of the game etc.). I just learned not to listen too much to people that are too "extremist" or who think their way of playing is the only possible way. Hope you change your mind at some point and to see you in game ! Sail safe ! 4
Atreides Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Abigail, this is a game in development with all sorts of content available to explore. I will give you an example of something I did early on: A year ago there was no coordinates on the map, you had a compass bearing and that's it, I used trace paper, a ruler and protractor to chart of point of sail to find Bermuda. I left from a port that gave me a solid point of reference, set you course heading, and sailed for almost 3 hours. At dawn I could make out an island off my port side, I turned and had found Bermuda! I visited the three ports there and came back. I have explored every port of this game, figured out trade runs and what shallow passes can be made, I have fished, collected bottles then gone to wrecks. There is a wealth of beauty in this game to experience, massive storms while your in the Gulf, ships appearing out of the fog close to shore, hearing frogs and crickets whilst in harbour at night. The sun setting or rising over distant, misty hills off your starboard side as you sail away from a port. Don't let the caustic, ADD riddled children cause you to deprive yourself of what this game has to offer, just ignore them. This game is a sandbox, make your own content. There are two types of people in the world: those who decide how they are going to feel, and those who allow others to dictate how they feel. Cheers 5
maturin Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 You really get a refund and still go register for the forum? That is like the stuff of nightmares...
Mrdoomed Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 You really get a refund and still go register for the forum? That is like the stuff of nightmares... The tone of his entire message gave that away.
Abigail Scott Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 I registered *yesterday.* Let me make that clearer. I registered yesterday, a day before requesting a refund.
SheepDip Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 I would say to Abigail , give it another try , it was a steam issue , not a Naval Action issue , I am a Rear Admiral PvE based outta Charleston and I would be happy to help you anytime . I play every day , I am on usually from 5:00 PM California (Pacific) time till about 11:00 PM , I also have ports in Tumbado and Ile -A- Vache (not sure if I spelled that right) , Anyways it's an awesome game , give it another roll
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Abigail, I hope you'll give the game another chance. It's truly a lot of fun, and there's a lot to it. If not, well, I hope you have some good memories of the game to take with you. I hope you have a great week!
DeRuyter Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Hopefully you have read in the support section that there was a problem with the Steam servers today, so nothing to do with NA. From the looks of it Steam has resolved the problem. Please give it another try!
Macjimm Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 One last comment: I'm really tired of smart asses who think they've got to deride PvE players. I can understand your aversion to aggressive narrow minded opinions. I've learned a lot from the NA community about online gaming and the competitive selfishness of multiplayer environments where a frequent goal is to overpower other players. Although it is possible to avoid a huge part of the negative aspect of NA by staying away from the forums and spending your time in game. I've met a whole lot of helpful personalities in there. I have not tried the PvE server but it seems like the ideal place to enjoy the best of NA without having to endure smart asses and snarky remarks. I hope the anti-PvE players are never able to force out people who do not like PvP.
edward kydd Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 stay abigale on pve where their are many good guy/girls ready to help you just have to ask I prommise you'll have a better experience.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 There are many games out there but there is no other game like NA. It is not a first impressions game. It is a very open experience that can fit almost any playstyle you imagine in the historical age we are interpreting by playing. Veteran testers ( If you didn't notice the game is still in a very solid production alpha ) will tell you that everytime you play you will learn something new. Everytime you fight there's more to experience and try. All politics and conquest and trade are very solid as a support to the combat. Also do not shake fists to the nay-sayers, PvE is a part of the game even if it is on the PvP server, and having a PvE server is great for those of us NA player that enjoy simply to represent in a scenario, as a single player game with a multiplayer chat. Cancel your refund. You making a grave mistake. 3
