Oddible Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I heard folks talking today in chat saying that Z-C sail boom adjustment on a Basic Cutter is just for getting out of irons. I'm brand new to this game but there is more to it than that if it follows basic sailing rules. You should trim your boom tight to center when beating the wind (upwind), and loosen your boom as you pass a beam reach (where the wind is perpendicular to your boat), so that as you are on a full run (downwind) you should likely have your boom all the way out to one side.
Hethwill, the Red Duke Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Act as deflector and tighten the jibs. Main issue most players have is when they get dead on wind.
maturin Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 It's been on the to-do list for years. AFAIK all the design documents are done; it just needs implementation.
Oddible Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 It's been on the to-do list for years. AFAIK all the design documents are done; it just needs implementation. Huh? What is?
maturin Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Huh? What is? The thing you made this topic about...?
DeRuyter Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Proper manual sail control on the fore & aft rigged ships so you can trim the sails in the way you described.
Oddible Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 The thing you made this topic about...? Not sure if you're trolling me or trying to be funny but if you're being serious, what you're saying isn't clear. In my original post I explained that the Z-C adjustment for cutters may impact your downwind speed. Are you saying that this is NOT implemented yet? I also said that people have explained that it also helps if you're in irons. Are you saying that this is NOT implemented yet? Because Z-C adjustment on the cutter IS IMPLEMENTED in the game currently in combat mode. I can see the boom move. Are you saying that the controls and visual representation are implemented but the effect isn't? Your statement was too general to be understood given the several things said in the original post. Or are you talking about something else entirely? 1
maturin Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 The proper speed effects for trimming gaff booms are on the to-do list.
Oddible Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 The proper speed effects for trimming gaff booms are on the to-do list. This is like pulling teeth. Are you saying that there are currently ZERO effects or that there are effects but they are incorrect.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Currently, the effects are modeled after square riggers, where they're modeled at all. While you can affect, to some degree, the performance of your fore/aft rigged vessel in the game - the behavior of the boat based on those settings and the ability to reach certain settings (such as fully deflecting the boom against the wind) wouldn't be possible in real life, and if you tried it, you'd probably get a very nasty surprise. There have been a lot of discussions about how to model fore/aft rig qualities in the game, but there hasn't been any real implementation of those qualities to date (that I'm aware of). 1
