I was heading to Mort in a trader lynx when a US rattlesnake player/renomee AI attacked me. I called out for people in Mortimer to head south to get the US player when I escaped from battle. When we came out of battle there were 5 pirates all heading to my location. I tried to drag the rattlesnake towards my reinforcements and attacked the US player to keep him from escaping and... "BR too high" cannot attack! I am a noob and I had no idea this was a rule. The rattlesnake managed to slither off into the horizon and escape.

I found out that this rule is to prevent griefing but it prevented me from getting my vengeance! There should be a vengeance timer when someone attacks you. For 24 hours the BR rule is negated between you and your attacker.

This would still prevent griefing AND allow for vengeance killing (in my opinion the best kind of killing)!

vengeance for what?

he even didn't kill u. so, what are you talking about?

In most cases, glueing AI fleet saves a trader from being ganked.

btw i love this state of mind

1v1 omg this dishonoured ***, killed me

1v X (x between 4 and 10 or even more) haha, now I kill u, why are u running away like a little girl. fight like a real man. coward!!1111111

So a rattlesnake and renomee versus a trader lynx is a fair fight?

He didn't kill me because I had SKILL and knew which direction to run. If I was a noob he would have killed me.

The vengeance is for him TRYING to kill me. Now I will try to kill him back.

As long as you are not making an arena-based game most of the fights would be unequal.

OW = brutal and unequal (more in-game options)

Arena = more equal (less in-game options)

Maybe the game could be kind of a mix where PBs are made as arena and the rest is OW. Would give more action and a a larger player base IMHO. Also the players with little spare-time would have some expanded options.

Nop, casual players will suffer from the Arena game mode, why? Because it will be like clanwars in WOT for instance, and casual players are not allowed into these, unless they are in a clan, and even then players are hand picked.

But still I would support the "arena" PB, if it was the creator of the attacking force who decided which and what he want's in the PB fleet.

I'm perfectly fine with Casual players, but organized battles, should mean choices also the the fleet organizing which will mean better and more intense fights.

Some games are pretty open. Take a shooter like Red Orchestra 2. Or Wargame: Red Dragon. Or Company of Heroes 2. Or Warthunder. Or Gettysburg by this developer. Its pretty simple. You start your game. Find a battle of your choosing. And join. Its not complicated. Its open and for all. Its fun.

I do wish smaller ships could attack larger ships even if BR is too high. The other day, I attacked an AI trader, just to tp that ship. I was sailing back in the trader lynx and was going to attack an AI Mercury & surrender to get back to port. Nope, BR was too high.

Small trade ships cannot counter tag because of this too.

LOL.  What is it lately with people getting "offended" that armed ships are attacking traders??

I had two people call me a "noob" yesterday because I had the audacity to attack an unarmed trader....  I mean, have these people never heard of the historical aspect of raiding trade?

Not to mention if you cant escape a Renomee with a fore/aft rigged vessel, you kinda deserve to get taken.

Its so ridiculous.

Well what do you do when you get tagged in a ship with no or a few guns?

You fight with words. :)

(Alternatively you ensure you have a St. Pavel chasing up their stern, which the raider doesn't spot until it is too late. :D)

Vengeance is a strong word. It seems to be offending people. Perhaps it conjures images of negative emotions.

It seems reasonable that if someone attacks you you should be able to attack them back.

I've gotten a lot of verbal abuse from LGV captains when attacking them with my Rattle. At the end of the day though, I still end up with their ship and whatever goodies are within. Sticks and stones, etc, but I think most of the salt comes from the feeling of helplessness. There's nothing an unarmed trader can do other than hope his attacker is bad (assuming the attacker has a decent tag). It sucks to be in that position, but in a lot of cases traders wouldn't be in that position if they 1. Had guns, 2. Had friends escorting, and/or 3. Were paying attention to their ship on OW instead of netflix while making their run

This.

You can avoid getting taken on a run if you scan the horizon and react to threats early on.  When I get taken, it is always because I did not do that.  Don't sail close to shore by a free or enemy port.  That is just asking for it.

I'm rather mystified by this thread.

OP, you were unsuccessfully attacked, and were able to escape.  Probably rather easily...doesn't take much skill to evade in a trader lynx, other than simply being aware that it far outsails any square-rigged ship upwind.  This engagement was a de-facto win for you.  And then followed up by some reinforcements arriving to drive the Rattler away from your capital.  You don't get sunk/captured...no one else of your nation gets sunk/captured.  The enemy's attempt to do some commerce raiding near your capital was entirely unproductive.

I might add:  The US player, as far as I can tell from your post, was engaging in PvP behavior (i.e., commerce raiding near enemy capital) which is pretty typical and widespread...especially predominant in the faction to which you yourself belong.  So surely you weren't somehow offended by getting a little dose of your own medicine (and without even having to swallow it)?

And you want "vengeance" for this, in the form of some sort of preferential attack ability against this player for the next 24 hrs?  Really?  Nonsensical.

I'm so confused why this thread has gone off the rail. All I'm saying is if a ship attacks you, I should be able to attack that ship as well.

Another incident occurred after I wrote this post. I was sailing past islet when a US surprise attacked me in my lgv. I called for help from mortimer and 2 pirates got to the location of the battle. I was able to escape the surprise. Once back in the open world I dragged the surprise in the direction of my help. Once the surprise noticed the 2 other pirate ships, he tried to escape and I attacked him. All 3 pirates made it to the battle and we destroyed the surprise.

All I'm saying is that any ship should be able to attack any other ship, if they attacked them first, regardless of battle rating.

It never was on the rails. You were in an unarmed trader lynx. How are you going to 'vengence' attack anybody in that?

Unarmed doesn't mean defenseless. If I had been able to attack in my trader lynx, my pirate friends would have been able to join the fight and we would have killed the rattlesnake as well.

Why shouldn't the trader lynx be able to attack any ship it wants to? The only reason the battle rating rule was made was to prevent greifing. Attacking a ship that attached me is not greifing!

What you suggest is a 1v1 BR tagging opportunity but open to being jumped by everyone... !?!?!?... doesn't make much sense.

The tagging of warfleets counters, gameplay wise, your suggestion as any ship would tag a 1st rate.

( although I would love it and "you... oh you... trade mariner" on your LGVee would be literally lynxed...finally. )

Hopefully you aren't in charge of anything IRL, otherwise we wouldn't have attempted murder charges! If someone shot a person 6 times in the head but the person lived, they still tried to murder them.

This person who attacked me would have killed me and taken a boat dura and a captain dura. I could have lost my boat and my captain.
