As I was sailing Mortimer - St. Nic (trade) and the Brits defense fleet (10 VIC and after 2-3 VIC) left St. NIC heading to PUERTO Esc, I saw a Pirate CONSTI just passing by.

I was always thinking at the beginning of the game how much this can break "the immersion" of the game.

Here my "fancy" idea:

- every engagement of hostile ships on the OW passes a BR "check" (like BR tagging check)

- if the BR difference being to high, the low BR is automatically "sunk" by the agressor (a check window

asking "want to sink this ship? = yes = low BR ship sunk, attacker cannot ove for x? sec.)

Just, a Traders snow should never just "sail though" or pass by a fleet of British VICs

without not fearing to loose the ship.

- allows for "blockading" ports more effectively.

- allows for "hunting" the single Lyny/Privateer in OW by good manouvering and encircling...

Sure the "circle" for this BR needs to be tight and adjusted...

I just believe, "scouting" should be more (potentially) "harmful"....you need to be more carefully

looking "what´s out there on the OW" = no afk sailing (risky)

I dont like this idea for one simple reason, you can avoid the fight entirely. Say im in a niagara and a bellona passes by, the bellona would have such a BR difference that he could sink me without a fight, yet every fight i have done in a niagara vs 3rd rate or larger i have ended as the victor(well i didnt capture or sink them, but every time they had to run away(and managed due to poor skills from me :/))

Yes, sure.

In the game we have BR-difference that no slowing done of fleets is possible.

But I am just asking myself, how "realistic" would it be to make it even into a battle vs. a SOL as a single pirate on a much smaller ship?

Stern-camping would be not an option, as any SOL would demast me before I could get even close...I needed 4-5 snows to get into battle,

and then yes, stern-camp the constitution.

Well the situations in talking about is just me alone in a niagara vs a lone SoL... It is very much doable(the demasting thing is why i couldnt capture them)

What i meant is, I find it just bad being able to scout a 10xVIC-fleet on a simple Privateer,

giving coordinates to my faction, without being sunk automatically.

I just should not dare get even close to them (only from distance using a spyglass....)

Why did the Victory fleet not bring a fast interceptor to deal with enemy scouts?

This reeks of laziness. ;)

Bingo. Yes, you are right.

Usually, clans are having problems making the numbers.

The problem I raised, is not a big one, more about "immersion style".

I was thinking of the old "small battles", when you left the battlefield...."you have 2min to return or you sink"

transforms to

"you are in range of the cannons of a big fleet, you have 2min to get out of range or you sink"

I just don´t like to see basic cutters being next to Trafalgar fleets. But on the other hand, i enjoyed it

being a relatively fresh player in Jan/Feb.

Then where did the 10 Victories come from? :)

Sink? Who is going to open fire? The lazy Rear Admiral on one of the Victories?

Apparently he can't even be bothered to come off his cabin boy.

One of the duties I enjoyed the most back when in nation roll call was fleet screen duty and messing up with potential scouts and intercept squadrons, on the other hand I'd act scout myself many times.

It is a playstyle for a Navy officer, as a screener and as a scout. No need to dispose of it.

It comes down to Skill not the Ship Size, I should not lose to a "I win" Button because he's in a bigger ship. If hes silly enough to attack me then prepare fer him to lose crew.

if a niagara can beat a sol then the sol captain is afk , or the gamemechanics are tuned to death...

or you know... SOL got outmanouvered, Which is not hard(granted the SOL can do things to stop the stern camping but not everyone knows how)

Please,

close this thread. (don´t know, if someone´s opening a topic can ask for...like: closed on request).

Arguments have very much shown that the idea is falling short.

Like "Skully´s" way of Socratic method.

That´s the way to handle dialogues... :)
