dzachau Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 This may have been discussed, but when a unit reaches the stream bank and crosses, does the game account for the obstacle? Were some areas of the stream deeper than others, forcing a unit to find a ford? If this is not accounted for, I think that would be worth a consideration. Searching for a ford was a major factor in many Civil War battles. 1
N.C.rebel Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 There was no issues at Gettysburg for streams and rivers, other battles yes.
dzachau Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 Thank you for the reply "Tarheel" and Xenu...! Yes, you make a good point about streams and Gettysburg, but the simulation map has a stream through it with a bridge at one point. My troops appear to "walk on water" (which we all know the Rebs were able to do! :-) . I was just wondering if there could be an indication that the stream slows them down, or where too deep may not be crossed. (it would be nice if the troop icons appeared to go waist deep into the stream to reveal the nature of the obstacle). It's related to the simulation error of troops walking through buildings, instead of around the obstacle.
Husserl Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Yes, the game calculates all the types of the terrain (water, bushes, forest, fields, urban, etc,) and adds penalties to the unit's move and condition. As the other answers indicated, there were only small creeks at Gettysburg. 1
